Japanese GC = American GC?
My friend was talking about GC and said that it had both BIOS's on it and that all you needed to do is sauder a wire to two points and your Japanese GC would be American. Is this true?! If so, it just shows how lazy Nintendo is with it's country "lock-out" features.

oops, i thought it was the GBA.
anyway, it's true that you only need to solder two points to get past it. But it needs l337 soldering skillz.

I tried fixing a broken MSX's soundchip once...I almost damaged the diskdrive cable with the soldier iron. Anyways, I ended up using tape :o ...I'm very bad at soldering. |

Worse than that would be if you caused some damage to your Cube and then had to bring it in to get it fixed. I suspect they wouldn't be very pleased to do so.

The Japan GC's mainboard is exactly like the dev one, which had a region switch. A small solder job, and an end-user could have one too
![]() The US one is supposed to be similiar, but the job has to be done in reverse or somesuch.

the GC mod is extremely simple. if you had a jap gc and just wanted to play US games, all you would need to do is drop a glob of solder and be done with it.

Kinda reminds me of my first pc game. I got it for christmas and it took me 6 months before I could play it. 2 Months to track down the problem another 4 months to trck down a driver (no net connection for me in those days
)

hmmm
Normal Watcher.....solder master....Watcher after drinking coffee....suicide solderer...
Indeed the Japanese GC can be modified..but one must ask themselves... For the cost paid to import the GC..do you really want to void warrenty and take a chance of ruining the device? If you did screw up you would be forced to by another one anyway.... We admit modifying our old PSX...but we did so knowing that if we made a mistake..a replacement would cost us less then $100.... |

The point to solder on the GC is nothing compared to modding a PSX, which is easy compared to most soldering work.
