Direct pad pro interface problem - works for friend

Hello, I thought maybe someone at this forum might have some experience with this problem.

I've recently built a Parallell port adapter for my NES pads. Since the interface is just like the SNES one I thought you might be able to help.

I made it so it has support for 2 joypads, and it worked perfectly with my friend's laptop PC! I used ppjoy drivers for windows XP.

However, on my computer, it does not work. On joypad 1, no button responds, and on joypad 2, one button responds. On my friend's computer it still works great.

Any idea what might be wrong? Some setting with my parallell port? Any way to diagnoze the error?

I also tried the psxpad driver but got the exact same error!
