Stupid Question: NES

Hey, this is a dumb question, and I'm sorta new to emulation, but is there an emulator out there for the original Nintendo, from the 80's? I've been wanting to play Legends of Zelda (arguably the best game ever on NES) lately.

Thanks, and sorry for the dumb question.

NES emulators have been around far longer than most newer emus. As for Nesticle... It's total crap compared to todays NES emulators. I would reccomend VirtuaNES and FCEultra. Both of which are extremely compatible and will run on anything of at least 300+Mhz or higher in Windows. Both of these emus are updated quite frequently as well, which is a very good thing.

man, there are a billion to pick from..but VirtuaNES is probably the best as far as emulation, with NESten being my favorite for interface/save states/ease of use/running in a cute window

shh, dont mention it

it's not exactly legal...but it's not a big deal either. they dont sell retail Legend of Zelda for NES anymore, so no matter what you do, the big N aint making a profit anyway

Didnt Nintendo stop supporting NES completely a while ago? Doesnt it bring NES emulation and roms from grey area to more legal area?

I read somewhere that nintendo actually likes emulation of their older systems such as the nes, because it increases people's interest in their games, and makes them more likely to but a GBA or GC game.

You are looking for a good emulator huh? Well, you should definitely try FCEUltra, because it's probably the best NES emu. If you are going to be playing games that require extremely accurate emulation (such as Pirates, RadRacer2, etc) use Nintendulator. The latter will require a faster computer, but will emulate most games flawlessly.

Summary: first try the game you wanna play on FCEUltra; if you see glitches, run it on Nintendulator. If Nintendulator runs it like crap, then I guess you are out of luck.

I mostly use VirtuaNES (just because of HQ2x ^^ and that it's very compatible and sound emulation is great). I occasionally use jNES tho because it has "stereo" support.

Nesticle was a godsend back in the day. it'd run on extremely old PCs at full speed with sound. The icon was also classic too . Bloodlust Software was one of my favorite sites. Anyone remember the site sections were split from dismembered body part? Anywho i use NEStopia which seems to work pretty well despite full screen doesn't have stretching.
