According to the website, " StarROMs was established to provide an inexpensive and legal source for classic video games. These are the original games exactly as you played them in the arcade. Now you can legally download the ROM and play the game at home, as often as you like, with your favorite emulator! "

Prices are as low as 2$ per title, most of them are MAME roms.

** So now roms are turing just like the mp3 buisness. Sell them in order to legalise it. I checked Atari's website but I couldnt confirm weather they gave thier permission or not**

They probably faked it. Just for fun. They will take your money and never give you a single ROM. The copyright, could be completly made up by a bunch of nerds looking for money for their next big "project." :P

like i could give a rats ass whether its legal or illegal i find it to a very GOOD deal...if theyre the only ones who have that certain game..

and BTW why dont we quit the BS..just about every one on this form has or had mame roms...

It's legit. It's not the first company to do this. Freeloader had classic pc games available for legal d/l a while back, but they folded. Atari have also sold their roms along with pc gamepads in the past.

At least they got a lot of publicity recently, so they eighter have the right to sell those roms or will get busted soon. I think this is a very nice solution to the legal issue around using mame; and I hope someday someone will do the same for other ancient systems, like the PC-Engine (TurboGrafx).
