Question Snes9x or Zsnes

I heard both Snes9x and Zsnes are really good and that the Zsnes is only faster. In terms of sound and video quality which would win out?? compatibility?? As for speed, i doubt it matters due to high cpu speeds nowadays.

Zsnes ans SNes9x are both fast , but zsnes is not not much faster. If u think the only thing good about zsnes is speed, then u need to have your heard examined . Zsnes has better sound IMO. well both have good video modes, but all u really need is Super 2xSAI which both emu's have.

Re: Snes9x or Zsnes

I prefer ZSNES, but the recent versions seem to have screwed up music for me for some reason, so I stick with v1.337.

Re: Snes9x or Zsnes

Snes9x, all the way.
Zsnes, still has a rather archaic front-end thats just sooo 90's.
Newer Emulators now have nice front-ends, and are much nicer to navigate.
And most importantly, Zsnes does not allow one to have their own screen resolution. You have to have one from the fixed selection.
I want MY resolution, and without any limitations that prevent me from using 2xSAI, as an example.
In Snes9x, I use 1024x896 60hz NTSC, with buffering and V-sync. This gives me a multiple of the original Snes resolution.

Re: Snes9x or Zsnes

Well I like Zsnes on my pc, since it's low end and runs games way better than Snes9x, also I use Interpolation, because 2xSAI is choppy. Not in graphics but in speed.
But I don't hate snes9x, I use the ported version on my DC (DreamSnes)

This is a recurring thing. I'll always say ZSnes, but in reality they are so close......

Re: Snes9x or Zsnes

I prefer Zsnes too, as for the reason, I think the others, yeloazndevil especially, have already stated out. I used to have sounds problem with Snes9X which forced me to use Zsnes instead, I am happy with it so far. Besides, I actually like the current GUI of Zsnes.

ZSnes all the way:
  • ZSnes looks better (Snes9x doesn't interpolate the video after filtering, at least for me) and ZSnes now has the stunning hq3x filter for guys with fast processors.
  • ZSnes sounds better as it has a better sound core as well as having more options for sound interpolation and lowpass, which Snes9x hasn't got at all (has only Gaussian).
  • ZSnes works better with SuperFX games (StarFox runs too fast in Snes9x).
  • ZSnes is faster on low-end systems because it is coded in ASM rather than C.
  • ZSnes also has better Netplay- you can play over the internet with 56K with hardly any lag, while Snes9x implementation only works over LAN or it desyncs all the time.
  • The ZSnes GUI looks great filtered with hq3x @ 1024X768 with burning GUI effect enabled. Snes9x is a black screen with a grey bar at the top, that doesn't even have the XP Theme enabled in its menus.
  • The only reasons to use Snes9x in reality are if you use Mac/Linux (as it has greater portability due to the way its written), or if you are unlucky enough for it not to work on your PC (I've tried it on 3 PCs with wildly different specs, no problems so far.)

That's my opinion of it anyway!

Re: Snes9x or Zsnes

I love ZSnes !

If you use DOS (on old PC) ZSNes DOS version is better than SNes9.x (win version)

And ... ehm... I can't to renounce to "snow & rain" fx of ZSnes

Zsnes , because it has better sound IMO , has better compatibility , for the rest it's been my very first emu and I immediately liked it.

If you have the latest ZSNES WIP you have to be in over 1024x768 to see it IIRC. Otherwise as Yeloazndevil said

Found it. Kinda neat, but nothing too critical when compared to super2xSAI.

Re: Snes9x or Zsnes

I perfered Snes9x a year ago, but I hadn't played with the new emus lately. I never tried any of the Zsnes WIPs, so probably that slowdown at 60fps is fixed by now
