Sega Cd

Ok this is for someone who knows there emulation

I was wondering if it is possible to emulate the sega genesis on a sega cd
this would allow you to play all your original games on the genesis itself
has this already been done or can it be I mean all the hardware is there all that is needed is something to boot the rom up

or could you just burn a game on a cd and pop it in

sorry for all the questions
thx

If you are suggesting wht I think you are suggesting, you'd be able to play all the orginal games on the console anyways.
You need the Mega Drive itself to use the MegaCD. Thus a Sega CD based MD emu is pointless.

Re: Sega Cd

Lord Kane is correct... The Sega CD was designed to use both it's own Motorola 68000 processor and use the Motorola 68000 on the Megadrive / Genesis. It also shares the system's RAM...basically the Sega CD cannot function without the Genesis. The later models did not fact incorporate both chips..but it still maintained the ability to run megadrive games.

http://darkwatcher.psxfanatics.com/console/segacd.htm

erm... just in case you meant the Sega Master System / Mark III...There was a device called the Powerbase Convertor that allowed that....

Now a goody would be to see if you could alter the convertor / or emulate Game Gear games.

Oh wait! we think we follow you! Indeed an interesting concept (if we understand you correctly)..Rather then running a single cartridge....you can encode a small program that would allow the Sega CD drive to pass ROM information directly to the Megadrive processor. This would allow a user to run multiple Genesis titles off a single disk, and utilize the actual console's capabilities.....
Interesting concept! Perhaps if you post this idea with this detailed info...an emu author could pick it up. We are not sure whether it can be done..but it essentailly sounds feasible since both units work in tandem.

perhaps I didnt phrase that correctly

yes I know that the sega/mega cd is anaddition to the genesis
but in order to play the games you must have the cartridge(duh)
what I am suggesting would allow you to play every game ever made by putting them on cd and not by going out and buying every cartridge

It would be like the Doctor 64
a device that you put on the n64 that has a cd drive and can read roms from it and emulate them on the systemperfecttly like they were meant to be

[edit]Oh dang I just read darkwatchers post and thats exactly what I mean

If anyone knows who I could talk to about implementing this idea or how to do it my self tell me

thanx guys for the input

Re: Sega Cd

I think you guys aren't realizing that there wouldn't be any type of emulation for such a program. The rom on the cd would just be loaded and run with the actual genesis hardware. A device like that wouldn't really work anyways since the genesis doesn't have enough ram to hold an entire rom in memory. It'd have to load every bit of the game from the rom on the cd and be very slow or skippy. The sega cd only had a 2x cd drive. Hardly the necessary speed to allow the game to load realtime fast enough from the cd.

Re: Sega Cd

We thought of that as well fivefeet8...at one point we considered the Japanese approach of utilizing a RAM cart since the actual cart slot is available...but such a device was not made available ....would have been interesting though

*DW does the math with the Sega CD and Genesis RAM*

Less then 1 MB...ah well...
