A very recent but very impressive NES emulator is Nestopia. From the very first release it was an impressive NES emulator. It may not run fast enough on some slower systems though. Definitely use this one if you can.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/nestopia FCE Ultra is a very good NES emulator. Should run well on anything all the way back to a fairly fast Pentium. It's my current favorite. http://fceultra.sourceforge.net/ NESticle used to be the best a long time ago. It's definitely one of the fastest NES emulators (can get full speed on a 486DX), and it's compatibility is pretty good. However, it was surpassed in compatibility and feature-set by other emulators a long time ago. Only use this if you have a really slow PC. http://bloodlust.zophar.net/NESticle/nes.html |

VirtuaNES is also very good, almost as good as FCEUltra. http://virtuanes.s1.xrea.com:8080/
Sometime ago one of the members here was trying to get Skull & Crossbones working. At that time there was no NES emulator that would run it. Well apparently the latest release of FCEUltra can play it!! |

Re: I need a NES emulator...
I personally really like RockNesX. Easy to use, nice GUI, and lots of features

I'd also say NNNesterJ is a good option as it has very nice filtering options like 2XSAI, Super Eagle etc. in fullscreen mode and windowed, and is very compatible. It also has movie support, 48KHz sound and simple netplay. Makes NES games look and sound better than the actual console if you want it to. The controllers are also really easy to configure, and it supports four players.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I'll look into these.
Actually it was my cousin who needed them. He is quite pleased. Thanks again. |
