ZSNES vs SNES9XW
I know that most people seem to think that ZSNES is the best SNES emulator hands down. And I agree on alot of levels. The sound emulation is basically perfect. It emulates every track layer (SNES9X doesn't always get every track) and also is more accurate in its SFX emulation. It also has alot more features. However my vote still goes to SNES9X for a few simple reasons. 1) The graphics on SNES9x are MUCH better. Bi-linear filtering modes yield sharper and crisper graphics than any of the 2xSaI or Eagle filtering modes 2) I keep my desktop running at 32-bit and I like to play games in windows - with ZSNES I have to switch to 16-bit 3) I much prefer a standard Windows system window (SNES9XW) than a weird GUI with separate mouse cursor (ZSNESW)

I find that ZSNES has more compatability, and SNES9X frequently has issues with the Bilinear filtering. I find that hald the time the emulator will freeze whenever I try to select one of the funky filtering modes. But the new ZSNES actually has a lot better picture IMO. |

I have the latest version of both emulators. I've never had any freezes with SNES9X and I tried every single filtering mode on ZSNES and nothing looks as crisp as bi-linear filtering.

I thought that bilinear filtering looked blurry in comparison to Super 2xSai. Snes9x is good, but IMO, ZSnes kicks it in the mommy daddy button.

Both emus a really great. But I mostly use Zsnes because imo it has better sound and I like 2xSai and I find it a little faster than Snes9x.

I still say SNES9X has better picture. I HATE the 2xSAI look on the SNES emulators (keep in mind BOTH emulators have 2xSaI, Super 2xSaI and Super Eagle modes). It looks ok in some games, but it makes coloring and shading look weird and makes everything look like a cartoon - which I don't really care for. So in ZSNES I use interpolation, but I find the bi-linear filtering much better looking than the interpolation. Plus like I said, the 32-bit window thing, and the window appearance really make a HUGE difference for me. As I always run stuff in 32-bit mode and usually I'm playing SNES while watching TV on Asus Live and episodes of stuff on my media player. That's right, I must be watching/listening to at least 2 or 3 things at the same time.

Maybe you’re thinking of the approximations involved in SNES9X’ transparency code? Last edited by Snu; November 4th, 2002 at 13:16.. |

Bah...we use them both....particularly at work haha...Windows NT cannot utilize ZSNES Direct X 8.0 requirements...and the DOS version does not have the full amount of visual features...so thats where SNES9x comes in handy....hmm..perhaps SNES9X works particularly more well with OpenGL users? We know it incorporates the features of an OpenGL version they produced long ago..... Bah...anyhoo we use both....this way if a game is broken in compatibility due to some upgrade (it happens)..we can just try it on the other.... Then again we double / triple up on most emus....we use all the free PSX emulators, use 2 different NES emus, 2 different MD emus (though GENS is changing our views)..3 Neo Geo emus, etc so what do we know

I think Snes9x is better because I run WinXP and Zsnes just blows in XP. I can barely get 50fps with Zsnes on XP while I get constant 60fps with Snes9x. I don't have a slow computer either. Also, I think the sound is crisperer on Snes9x than Zsnes. I always get noise and cracks with Zsnes but not in Snes9x. Snes9x also also has OGL which I think is alone to declare it better than Zsnes.

Zsnes is by far the best. I don't like any kind of filtering and I especially hate Interpolation as it makes the picture very blurry. Zsnes is more compatible and the sound and picture quality is much nicer. Sound is definately much, much better then Snes9x. And sound and music is very important to me. Zsnes runs perfect for me under Windows XP, always 60FPS. Triple buffering, smooooth video.....

well... this is the fact.... I own a Sis 630/730 video card which is better managed in snes9x... for me it is the best... yeah, it lacks somewhat in compatibility, and has not been uopdated in ages, but it is cool, has a correct GUI and its filtering is much better than ZSNES, besides, ZSNES is a very slow emulator, and snes9X is fast, and does not crash with my PC.......I think it depends on the hardware, and either of them is worse or better, it just depends on what you like or works btter on your PC.. it is the same case as PSX emus... I prefer PCSX over epsxe just because it will run faster and the BIOS is included, etc... but other guys may want epsxe over PCSX because of the compatiibility and the capabiluities, and I do not blaame them.....
