Lightbulb Doom III on Xbox?

Game spot says that doom III will be on the Xbox. Does that mean that Doom III will not be 128bpp after all?

Rumors, rumors, rumors. I am betting Doom III will not have graphics desined for NV30 after all. If it is being made for the Xbox then Doom III will be made for GeForce 2 graphics.

F:shout:ck you xbox! I like shootem up games. :rockets:

But at the same time i have a GeForce two

GF2? or GF3?

IIRC I heard that there'll be some kind of backward compatibilty with GF2 cards as well but with removing some detail and special fx for the game.

I believe that DOOM3 is optimized for a GF3 and XBOX has a similar GPU. So it wasn't much of a surprise that this game will be on XBOX. But I think that the XBOX version won't look as good as the PC version. (PC with the recommended requirements)

Nvidia has claimed the NV30 does 128 bpp capabilities (the Radeon 9700 does 96 bpp) but it'll still only output a max of 32 bit colors. We still haven't even reached 64 bit colors, nevermind 128 bit and even if the cards were able to output that much color current monitors cannot support more than 32 bit anyways.

The XBOX uses a modified GeForce 3 and uses pixel shaders.

John Carmack has stated at Quakecon 2002 that the XBOX version will look just as good as the PC version.

I won't, 'cos I could care less about Doom3. I just don't like these games. FPS aren't my type. However, Deus Ex and HalfLif are exceptions.

the xbox gpu has a nvidia chip that is actually more advanced than computer variant of a geforce 3 as it has two vertex shaders instead of one (like the geforce 4 Ti's do) so the xbox gpu is more than enough to run doom 3's visual flair. The problem may lie in the memory bandwidth and the processor, but remember that console systems run at 640*480 resolution max (not counting HDTV) so they won't have to work as hard as computers do to create the same visual experience. So to sum it up, the xbox version should look just as good as a pc version (with TV scanlines anyway). but wutever, i hate xbox... haha

I just have to ask the question.

WHY?

Why would anyone want Doom III on Xbox?

Why wouldn't they? It's a relatively simple porting job and owners of the Xbox who don't have a powerful enough computer for Doom 3 can enjoy it in its full graphical glory on their consoles.

bah. It's a PC game I tell ya! Then again, the Xbox is a PC without decent controls. Nevertheless, the Xbox is Directx based, and Doom III is OpenGL based, right? How's that going to work?

I HATE the Xbox.

That's why they'll have to PORT DOOM3 on XBOX, not play on it

But I think that playing an FPS with a gamepad sucks and sux real hard. And playing with an XBOX controller ..............AHHH

well, since xbox is basically a computer, aren't they making a mouse and keyboard for it?

What's so special about Doom? To put it simply, Doom revolutionalized the PC gaming industry. When the first Doom came out there was nothing else like it and it blew everyone away. Everyone was playing 2D side-scrollers like Commander Keen, Duke Nukem and Halloween Harry at the time. The level of graphical sophistication, along with the fast, frantic gameplay, superb soundtrack, and multiplayer feature made it one of the best games of all time (I think the only Doom clone to ever top it was Duke Nukem 3D). Id Software's subsequent games (Quake 1, 2, 3) all featured cutting-edge engines and set the standards for all other games in terms of technology and graphics. As the leading developer of the game engines John Carmack has gained a huge following within the PC community. With Doom III Id Software's prepared yet again to set a new level of PC gaming. We've all seen the kind of games produced from the Q3A engine (Alice, RTCW, Jedi Knight II), just imagine what the next generation engine will bring. Id Software was the founding father of PC-based 3D gaming (kinda like 3dfx was the founding fathers of 3D acceleration) and they still continue to lead the industry in the field.

It'll never be a XBox only game... Id software wouldnt do that I believe. Id has been creating breakthroughs for the gaming world on the pc and if they make Doom3 an XBox only game I'd lose all my respect for them. So will many others, I guess.
