The Latest PS2

As everyone knows, many of the PS2s made so far have had problems. They r getting less and less with each new release. I'm going to buy a PS2 in the next few days and I want want to make sure I get the latest version (model). So, what is the latest one, plz?

Also, if I bought one from usa, will it work here considering we use NTSC here as well as PAL?? Thanks for ur time

You r really from Saudia? Well that is my favourite country.
IIRC Saudi Arabia use PAL UK standards. So I'll advise you to buy it from there. Don't know about Jeddah but if you llive in Khober or Riyadh you should buy it from there.

Moreover, if you get it from USA, like me, you'll have to use a stepdown converter, but again it depends on what kind of power supply you have in your house. A there are bothh 120V and 240V there.

Then again, you should look for versions which have an "R" at the end. If the shopkeeper has enough information, ask him for version 5 or 6 motherboard PS2s.

The Model number I can remember right now is SCPH30003R for Pal and SCPH30001R for NTSC. If you live in Dharan region, I can name a few shops too.

And I guess that this thread belongs to misc console discussion.

The PS2s with an "R" at the end are usually with motherboard version 5. However there are even a few version 4 MotherBoard PS2s with an "R" at the end. The version 6 Motherboard PS2 is the latest PS2 avaiable.

I am living in Pakistan for the last 3 years. I was brought up in Saudi Arabia. I lived there for 14 years and those were the first 14 years of my life.

I'll go for the NTSC, although I'll act newbie-like and ask why...esp with the bios number slightly higher for the PAL version, it seems quite tempting .

Hey, Syed, u have a good memory then and I'm glad my country apealed to u.

personally, i would go for the PAL version if i were you. most of the newer PAL tvs support a NTSC signal so there wouldnt be much loss converting but if you wanted to play a PAL game on a NTSC machine, you will get a noticeable loss of image. And the best reason is that the best mod out right now is compatible with most PAL machines and only one older version of the NTSC machines.

UK PAL: 30004R
NTSC-J: 30006R
I would go with NTSC U/C one or the UK PAL one.

Can anyone tell me what's the difference between NTSC-J and NTSC-U/C ? I know that one is for US/Canada and the other one is for Japan but what's the difference between the two NTSC's?

On the 6th of July 2002, I became the proud (and I wish, happy ) owner of a PS2. Let the end of the world begin

Bgnome, my tv supports PAL, NTSC and SECAM.....Actually, I rarely saw a tv that only supports one alone. Plus, mine is actually old

The only thing I found in the market was the 3004R PAL so I went for it. GT3, here I come!! Excuse me, I have some buisness to attend to

Nothing,except that the NTSC-J games don't run on a NTSC-U/C system,well, I guess you know that.

So you mean that there is only one NTSC and the difference is just to prevent Jap PS2 games running on US console and vice versa?

pretty much. The formats are identical, only they have different region codes. I am just glad that the GBA has no region lockouts.

Whats up with that anyway. They make different region codes only to have bootdiscs bypass that. Thats more work for everyone, including users, and more money for crackers.
Geez,Im probably BS'ing...

Talking Heh got myself a PS2 too

Yeah on July the 12th i got myself a PS2 model 30001 R NTSC U/C, is that good? and i got unreal tournament and Grand Theft Auto III(was 18 wheeler but i traded it for gta3) and mcgrath supercross with it for $399.99 CAN, was that a good deal? i checked at Wal-Mart the prices of Mcgarthy and 18 wheeler they totalled like $109.97 CAN (80 + 30) so i'm guessing i got a deal since if i can find sumwhere to trade these in (which i did for 18 wheeler and got gta3 instead) for like store credit and get like GT3(i bought) and GTA3(i traded for) i would be technically getting unreal tournament for free and partially part of the game prices back (since the system all alone is usually $299.99) anyways tell me ur comments about this (so i got gta3, mcgrath super cross, unreal tournament, the system, gt3, multitap, and memory card - all total like :eyes: $583.50 canadian  lol quite a bit of cash.

You've got the same PS2 as mine, and take a look at my sig. My PS2's operation time is more than 400 hours uptill now.

I think that you got a good deal.
