The two games are still basically the same. The PSX version of Lunar has had the graphics and music enhanced. Also, when you are walking about between towns and other places, there aren't any monsters. In the Sega version, there are monsters everywhere.
In the PSX version the only places you'll run into monsters are in Caves, sewers, dungeons, etc. Those are about the only differences, otherwise the games are pretty much the same.
sincerely,

I found the original Lunar was significantly better on Sega CD than the PSX port. Basically graphics were improved, but the music, plot, and characters were not nearly as good.

There's some storyline alterations between the Sega CD and PSX.

The two sisters (Royce and Phacia) from PSX does not appear on the Sega CD.

According to the "Making of Lunar" CD, the story in the PSX focuses more on the heroine Luna.

There's more anime cut scenes in the PSX version.

Use VGS to run PSX Lunar 1.
