alpha blending is known to cause artifacts on all emulators, it should be disabled by default as its a compatibility setting not a required setting.

The problem with the Ideas renderer is that the openGL one is abusing a certain feature in the wrong way, which kills performance more than you'd guess on certains configurations :P It's not at all related to alpha blending, but on which geometry it's applied.

However...why is it worse now?
Whatever the case, how is the sound plugin now? Better or worse than 1.0.0.4(that is, the previous version)?

EDIT: Nevermind my first question. Shash already answered.

alpha blending has always been a compatibility feature rather then an enforced feature in most emulators, and should only be used when there is blending issues, on games where there are none, enabling this setting more often then not causes problems like the one in the ideas render, one of the reasons it is now causing issues is because graphics emulation is more perfected so the setting is no longer needed, tell me, do you see any graphical anomalies with it disabled or missing effects, because i am yet to see any.

and another thing lol noone mentioned it killing performance, the problem mentioned was lines appear when alpha blending is enabled.

in my experience, when the lines come up when such a setting is on, but don't when it isn't.. then this is indeed a good thing.

there is a performance issue but its not related to alpha blending as you said, nor was i ever mentioning it was, i was referring to the issue of lines being drawn on the screen where they should be, and that is a common issue with alpha blending when it is not required, that is why alpha blending should default to off rather then on, so far my tests throught the games that required alpha blending on old versions do not require it on this one, and it is only when the option is enabled that the problem crop up again, so there for, i come to the conclusion that the graphics render has passed the need to have this on constantly.

also this was present in the 1.0.1.7 release so its not related to the slowdown issue noted with the audio..

There is at least one in the left screenshot (both left screenshots), under the sign near the house, and it's blending related. You can check it's fixed on the right one. And by the way, the DS supports alpha blending per se, so calling it a "enforced feature" is basically nonsense, the problem is more complex than you think, because of alpha blending depth write options and auto-ordering of blended polygons, the first being "easy" to emulate as long as there's no invariance between the base polygon and the decal one. The second one is harder due to being unsupported on PC hardware, so it must be done per software. It's doable but slow.

Lines are/were often drawn as degenerate triangles, and more than often decrease performance on certain configurations. That's a fact, not something that can be discussed, check hardware line drawing implementations for some pointers. Anyway, it's not related to the rest of the thread, so I'll just let it be.

It's in fact a bad sign, because the zfighting shows how it's done, and believe me it's one of the worst implemented features of ideas. Zfighting + lines is something graphic coders recognize fast :P

lol, wel all i can tell you is that out of

MEtroid Hunters
Zelda Phantom Hourglass
FF3 DS

the only time i saw graphic issues was with alpha blending enabled. :\ but, im sure you'll get it all fixed up soon enough so it doesn't matter in the long run.

I have nothing like noHero, with or without alpha blending...and I don't have forced AA on it either....it looks fine to me, just that shadows are less smooth and darker and things are less ....well... blended without alpha blending.

The only thing I have is that it looks like a bit like an old movie when I run, little black lines and dots flash accross the screen quickely and some edges distort and things basically flicker a bit or the image is fuzzy. It's like everything is moving and distorting a little bit, sort of as if a camera is being moved around too quickely and things get a little blury/fuzzy.

Can anyone answer my question? Graphics seem to have gotten worse, but if sound's better, one might simply replace 1.0.1.7/8's audio plugin with the new one, and everything would be better.

tht's what i did and strangly so i was thinking of the same thing that today 1.0.1.8b would be released (how weird) but i had savetype fix and cheatcode function as the updates yet sound is good too (though i switch off for speed)
EDIT: i wanted to know if there is a way to delete one of the save state files as i have more than 1 for a single game and they are saved as one file so can i delete the ones i don't require...Seems sound is the SAME and as said before 1.0.0.3 is better ie.) more clear
