Pokemon Platinum - slow emulation on the world map

I've recently started emulating Pokemon Platinum on my pc, but I get so frustrated by the slowness (...is that even a word?) when I'm outside buildings.

I downloaded the latest version 1.0.3.2 beta from the official website, and that's the version I'm currently playing with.
Also tried 1.0.3.0, but it happens with that one as well.

I first noticed this slow-down at the start, when you and your friend try and run across the grass (but gets stopped), it was a little choppy, but I could live with that. When in houses it was fine, no noticable choppyness (I'm full of new words

), perfectly playable.

It was also playable when I moved to get the pokedex.

However, when I reach the second town and talk to that policeman (or wtfever), it starts to get really choppy. I'm talking something that looks like 5 fps here. Not pretty.

Although, the fps counter at the top says it's at 50+ fps all the time (mostly ~60)

...Is this supposed to be happening?
I thought my computer had more processing power than a DS, for sure, so the game should be running fine.
This slowdown also happpens on Pearl/Diamond.

My specs should be on my profile, but I'll list them anyway:
AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+
Sapphire Radeon 2900 Pro
MSI M2N32 SLI-Deluxe
4GB Corsair bizznizz

Dunno if it matters, but I haven't changed any settings or stuff like that.
It's configured just the way it was when I downloaded it.

Edit: Trying out DeSmuME (0.9.4) now, and so far it's looking good. Will report back when I reach that last spot.

Edit 2: That spot was called Jubilife Town.
It's better now, although I'm not sure it can be compared, since it was nighttime when I tried it with iDeaS, now it's day with DeSmuME.
