i should have clarified (again),
i was talking about system requirements for new videogames

but 3GHz dualcore is till crazy fast, and 5GHz is over double my current clock speed.

That 4.4ghz Wolfdale.....

I've just overclocked, after doing some research, my Q6600 to 2.8ghz (9x312 with the G0 stepping) with the stock Intel HSF. CoreTemp reports 34, 32, 32, and 35 across the board (with SpeedStep on). Full load gets around 55 (Celsius) on each one. I won't go any higher than this unless I get a better cooler.

So just think MrPink, get a C2D and overclock the sucker....you won't be disappointed.

and the core 2 may have been from 2006, but you said any intel dual core doesn't have a high enough clock
for single core games

"Besides as I said stock C2Ds (and especialy C2Qs) have clock speeds which are too low to play old non multicore support games."

lets take all this offtopic to the intel vs amd thread?

good debate btw, i'm enjoying it

Hehe, I am pretty much done.

Besides it's not THAT offtopic...

Once I got my PC I pretty much stopped following processors but whenever I check PC shops around here the best they have is the Q6600...which is 2.4Ghz...I suppose things have changed though since the pentium days where they needed High Ghz, but I would still rather be safe than sorry. The best C2D I had seen was 2.8Ghz. So yeah what I have been saying was filled with ignorance I suppose as I don't know all the processors especially the really new ones which we don't have here yet. However since I got this PC I still have a soft spot for AMDs..(not ATI though)...in the past I have had nothing but hassle and disspointment from Intel and that 6400+ (I came accross an add for it whilst updating my catalyst drivers) still just looks good despite all the strong new C2Ds.

Anyways I don't really have any more to say on the matter...as I said I beyond checking the local PC shop every once in a while I have not really bothered keeping up.

Part of me thinks though. Yeah it's VERY good for the end user what is happening right now (Really low prices VS highly overclockable) AMD is sadly getting the short stick of it.........

When will this happy hour end? I fear for the day where even the cheapest processors will again cost about $140. It might not seem much, but I remember Intel processor prices that high (Even on the cheapest ones.) on the K6 days...... I just wish it doesn't happen again..... It's the miracle that the cheapest, latest model processor costs only $40. (Which I though was insane about a year ago.)

Maybe AMD should have bought Transmeta..... It might have helped them in this time, as AMD is Netbursting themselves to oblivion right now.....

PS : Netbursting I mean that they're trying to release processors that are in their theotherical limit due to temperatures. It's Intel's problem two years ago, now it's reversed.

Lastly..... Let's not make this an AMD VS Intel flame thread ok?

why?

afaik it's the only thing making amd money

plus ATI was an already fully structured company when AMD aquired it,
so it never held them back in any way but a little capital offset which will be made up by the profits from ATI

i dont think this thread is AMD v Intel fanboys

i like the direction it headed in, and i think everyone has kept their cool so far.
honestly, it cant be helped if AMD isn't doing so well, people like me can wish for them to do better, but in no way is there any brainless insulting going on...

it's barely making them money or at least was...before the HD 3 series cards they were in the exact same postition as AMD currently is...so a failing company aquired another failing company...

Besides whilst I am an AMD fanboy for processors...I am an nVidia fanboy when it come to graphics cards XD
