1) go buy a core 2 duo
2 buy amd 6000+ ,saves buying a new motherboard.

i am haivng another doubt will a core 2 dou clocked at 2.66ghz or amd 6000+clocked at 3 ghz offer higher performnce.

core 2 duo

c2d perfoms significantly better, and overclocks like a beast

should be the same (or core2duo is a bit faster) when both CPU's are clocked at stockspeed.

i prefer core2duo of course.

one thing i know:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ (clocked @2.5GHz) = ~50fps in FFX intro
Core2duo E6700 (stockspeed 2.66GHz) = ~80fps in FFX intro

yeah, i should've noted that

they'll be similar, but the core 2 should be slightly faster

I was thinking overclocking, I would put money on that core 2 hitting 3.7 Ghz on stock voltage and cooling

the price/performance for 3.7Ghz is awesome

but if you're worried about the extra cost of the motherboard then get a lower c2d model and clock up,
I have a 6550 at 3.5

and someone from the board has a c2d more than DOUBLE the rated speed :o

3.7Ghz is nothing... I want 4Ghz but I'm already at the EDGE of my limitation. And yes, go for the C2D you won't regret it later on. I'd recommend the E6750 which is priced at the same as the E6300!!! If you're into overclocking get the Allendale c2d if you wanna go cheap.

According to the program i used a 2.66Ghz c2d = 3.55Ghz AMD

a little offtopic,

but what cooler do you use, and is your clock fsb or multipler changed?

thanks

You'll need a good 120mm fan that does about 70 cfm or more to really maximize or take advantage of this cooler.

A 2.66ghz wouldnt easily hit 3.7ghz at STOCK cooling like you said. I could see 3.4ghz easily. 3.7ghz with STOCK? I'm not too sure about that. With a new fan sure, but stock... I doubt it a little.

(and stock voltage is wrong since the PC actually change the voltage by itself, it's automatic)

Or maybe I just s..ck at overclocking and I read the numbers wrong. I usually stop overclocking my CPU once my Core0 and Core1 reach 68 when running a torture test.
(CPU only reaches about 55, but Core0 and Core1 reach 68... does it mean I can overclock more because I should look at the CPU number? Or am I doing right of looking at Core numbers?)

If my room temperature is around 78-80 F then the idle temp is at 46 C and load is under 60 C

My C2D can't go over 3 GHz. (on the other hand it's cool when on full load) So beware, not all C2D are reasonably overclockable.

MOVING to hardware discussion. As it is far gone from the PCSX2 field.

Yeah, not all processor are created equal. You have to know how read the "box" to cherry pick the best ones. So far i only know how pick out motherboard and processor

Hmmm, thanks for the reply, I just wanted to compare the temps of urs and mine, I guess I'll overclock mine a little bit more, although I will have to take out my cooler to apply more cooling paste because I only put a little, xd that way I can overclock it more better. my temp is currently at 39C idle and under 50 on load.

Oh yeah, better get a C2D if you are looking for better performance, although it only benefits if you want to use pcsx2,there's no point in getting a C2D if ur not looking to squeeze the juice out of it. Get an AMD and save the extra bucks if it's only for pc games.

No, you are looking at the right numbers. The Core numbers are the accurate internal numbers. The CPU temp is the temperature on the outside of the CPU.

To the OP, the Core 2 Duo is a whitewash over the AMD chips. Only reason to upgrade with AMD is to keep your motherboard and other parts intact. The Intels are cheaper, faster, and overclock more.

C2D hands down. A month or so ago, I was asking the same question, but after some research, it just doesn't make sense to get an X2.

But if for some reason you want AMD, think Phenom

yes, at STOCK cooling

although i have a *****in case

btw, your core 1 and core 2 temps are the highest i've seen on a core 2
whats your clocks and model?

mine is 45 celcius on load and that's at 3.5 ghz with crazy fsb levels,
and i use stock cooling

Edit: it's an e6550 (2.33 Ghz stock and 1333Mhz fsb)
