if you eventually reformat, make sure you back up your important data and stuff before doing so. i wish i could be more helpful but sometimes these things are hard to narrow down without an error messege or tech report that would show there is some sort of conflict or damage to something.

for now, read these:

Thanks for the replies guys.
I reformatted my C drive only (I backed important stuff up on my D drive), and
everything seems to be normal again. However, I'm now on SP1. Is SP2 really\
that necessary? Last time I updated, my comp started getting slower...

computer FREEZING - DWA-652 pcmcia

PROBLEM NOW SOLVED

I was having the same issues with the computer FREEZING ... the laptop computer just STOPS ...

I was able to trace it to the DWA-652 pcmcia and resolved my issues by updating the driver to the latest version.

D-Link WiFi DWA-552/DWA-556/DWA-643/DWA-652 Driver 6.0.3.67

D-Link WiFi DWA-552/DWA-556/DWA-643/DWA-652 Driver 6.0.3.67 Driver for Windows XP Free Download - Softpedia

THIS IS A COMMENT FROM ANOTHER USER ....having computer freezing ... maybe due to a pcmcia card driver

I upgraded firmware on DIR-655 to 1.10 (Latest) and am using latest XP/Vista 6.0.3.107 driver on DWA-652 pcmcia. All of these tweeks helped greatly. Your mileage may vary depending on chip set your laptop is using when paired with DIR-655. Stand-by on laptops is still not working correctly with newer DWA-652 driver. Laptop would not shut down in standby mode with older driver nor could you disable card without having laptop freeze. Standby mode has again been an issue with the newer driver.

"The above post looks like advertising..."

That is too funny ... if it looks like advertising ... it is because I took a long time to research and add comment to a problem ... a problem I too had and was a similar issue...maybe not the same.

The funny thing is I was not a member of this forum... I too the time to research and add information to this forum... Most of all even though I was not a member, I considered and took the time to join this group hoping that I might have helped someone.

My issue was related to a D-Link pcmcia card freezing computer. An issue I was able to solve.

Cheers,
lmfao
