Not sure if you are looking at the XT or Pro version but the XT performs slightly less than the 8600GT and the pro performs slightly better than the 8500gt. In my opinion for the cost its a good deal.

I might be wrong but I think they might be fairly equal in performance or the 1800XT might be even slightly better. The X1800XT is although a generation earlier, its of the '800' class from a plus its an XT not a pro. While the 2600pro although a generation newer it's a '600' class gpu which are inferior to 800s.
I know a 6800gt can out perform a 8500gt any day of the week. Only exception is 6800gt isn't dx10 compatible only dx9 compatable

If you're talking about the x2600pro, it's 512 megs isn't going to give it much even at higher resolutions. It's still on a 128 bit memory bus and it's fillrates are very limited by it's 4 ROPs. As to the OP. Don't make that trade. Your x1800xt is far faster than the x2600pro.
