Going to Build a mid level pc.

My current pc is on its way out. It has always been a dud.
I am hanging on to my monitor, hard disks, optical drives and case. I wanted to stay around the €550 mark. With vat and delivery, this comes to about €570. Any tips or recommendations? Am i doing anything wrong? Many thanks to zeekay for helping me with all this. I know next to nothing about the current state of hardware. Any input would be appreciated.

EVGA S775 nForce 650i Ultra ATX A L Non SLI, which is fine for me.

Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 S775 2.33ghz 4mb Cache 1333FSB the 4mb cache is supposed to be handy.

Sapphire Technology Radeon X1950 PRO 512MB GDDR3 PCIE Dual DVI 580/700 Was originally going to go with the 7600Gt, then the 2600XT. This outperforms them both.

OCZ Technology 2x1GB 240DIMM PC2-6400 DDR2 Gold

Antec SP-500PGB A little expensive, but I wanna be safe.

Antec 120mm Smart Cool Picked this becuase it was cheap and seemingly quiet. I know nothing muchabuot case fans.

Some thing to consider...

1. G.Skill 2gb HZ series are really dirt cheap and fast
2. Get the E63xx series if u want to save some $$$ and overclock it!
3. Get a 80+ percentage energy efficiency
4. I'm not a Nvidia fan so i don't know how well those mid-range board could overclock...but Asus P5B-E and P5K -NON-deluxe are great board for its prices!

Personally, I usually go with AMD over intel, but what you've picked out looks really good for your price range. My only recommendation (out of personal experience) is not going with a true high-end x19XX series card. I had two (X1900 GT and X1950 GT) and both ran EXTREMELY hot! The x1900 GT sometimes went well over 100 C under load, causing my ambient case temp to shoot way up. And the fan on that one was loud at full spin. You might wanna check out the Nvidia Geforce 7950 GT card-line: the prices are dropping huge amounts now, and the build as well as the high-end capabilities would suit you better, even if it costs a few more bucks.

Will you be updating your OS at all in the near future? (could be a factor in your choice of parts)

Newegg sells them for $160 = €115 so the difference is €35.

first for your graphics card get the 8800 GTS and catch them on sale, cpu you can get the Core 2 Duo 2.4ghz E6600 try to shoot for the conroe I think they have the best ocing but I could be wrong on the conroe. If you want to oc go with a beefier cpu cooler, the ENZOTECH Ultra-X is wonderful for the price. I do have a ghetto cooler that I made that works wonders as well cost about 20-30 dollars to make. But if I where you wait untill jan, you will be able to build a really nice rig for just over 1k and it will run any thing you throw at it, major price drops coming.

Uhm... no.

What you've got set up is fine. The only suggestion I have, is to got for a P35 chipset. I recommend the Abit IP-35E. Its probably cheaper, and (since I'm using it) i can tell you, its rock solid. Good for overclocking too.

With the money you'll save on the motherboard, try and get an ATI 1950XT. There is a small price difference, but it performs a fair bit more than the PRO.
