overclocked my athlon X2 from 2.2GHz to 2.38, want to go higher
so i have overclocked my athlon X2 (socket 939) 4400+ from 2.2GHz stock to 2.38GHz. my idle temps before the overclock were 34-36C and my load temps were between 41-46C (depending on which game i played for how long. my new idle temps are between 38-42C, my load temps are 52-56C. with this information in mind, could someone tell me how much higher i can go, or the maximum acceptable temperature for my processor? thnx

I have the X2 socket AM2 at 2.2, and I OCd it to 2.45. Thats the max I could go before it froze up. Try that.

yeah, i am at 2.42GHz stable right now. my idle temps are around 40C and load is 50 to 57C i think. it is a shame though, because i have researched and discovered that both the AM2 and 939 models can tolerate temps of up to 70C. Knowing that i had that much headroom for temps, i would love to go higher. but 2.53GHz was the absolute highest i could go, anything after would give BSOD. i am not even sure if i would like going higher anyway, because i have already had to bump my RAM up to 216MHz(DDR 433) to keep up with the processor, and in order to do this i had to loosen up the timings a bit. on top of all this the 4400+ i have has a locked multiplier
so i am satisfied with a 200MHz OC.i am very envious of you core 2 duo owners, the multipliers for that whole line of processors must be unlocked in order for people to hit those crazy speeds so easily(3.6GHz?! ). anyway, despite my intentions of keeping my 939 platform throughout college, i will probably upgrade to a LGA755 platform before graduating high school, since ddr2 and good 755 motherboards are so cheap now. for now i will see how well i can run bioshock .

Well Im probably going to be buying a 6000+ AM2 if this PC trouble doesnt solve itself, so Ill tell you how that OCs. Ive heard stories of 3.5, and legends of 3.7.

i have a friend with a 5400 i think (or a 5200, one or the other). however he is satisfied with his computer the way it is and could care less about oc'ing it. it is quite simply an hp with a geforce 7900gt in it. it's enough for him though, since considers 8800gtx's and the like to be absurdly OP.

I LOVE my 8800 GTS, I saw no reason to get the GTX for $100 more, when I looked at benchmarks of the GTS overclocked, beating out the GTX at stock. I dont see the point, waste of money. But the 8800 series in and of itself was the best investment Ive made in my computer so far, I love it. If only it would actually work, it be even better. Obviously, me having an 8800, my processor is my bottleneck, and thats why Im thinking about the 3.0 Ghz, just so that I can use ALL of the power my 8800 has to offer.

Wanna see something cool. Keep in mind I dont do this often, but...
http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/98...k05/index.html As you can clearly see on this page with a benchmark to 3DMark06, you can safely overclock your GTX to 654 Mhz/2020 Mhz. (that last one is in DDR ur gonna have to translate that urself cause idk how...) Your welcome
