4CoreDual-VSTA

i have this ASRock 4CoreDual-VSTA, is there anyway (somekind of Mod) to make this mobo can run it's SATA (1.5GBs) at SATAII (3.0 GBs) speed ?

AFAIK no... just buy a new one if its THAT important. You can find them dirt cheap nowadays. Or just make do with sata, probably a hell of a lot easier

you will see either no or little speed inscrease with SATA II. I know I didn't when I upgraded my motherboard.

of course u can my a SATA controller, but that will cost probably as much or more than buying a better mobo.

Just a technical question:

Aren't these SATA speeds severely limited by the actual speeds of harddrives themselves?

Yeah, that's why I said you won't see any speed difference. SATA II is just more security if I remember right.

sata is 1.5gbps, whereas 2 is 3gbps, however, I don't think that many harddisks go that fast.

I know the read and write speeds of harddrives are still measured in MegaBytes, not GigaBytes.

I believe that's just the theoritical speeds at which the cables and ports can do. Of course, they'll never reach those speeds due to speed limitations of the actual hard drive itself. Like Aided Onslaught said, I believe most board makers switched to it because of security.
