Overclocking my E4300

I read a little bit about it and it seems as if this CPU is capable of being overcloed to run at (i think i saw) 96%! I've read that it can run quite stable at 2.7-3.0 Ghz. At first i thought it might not be worth it. But the more i think about it the better it sounds to me. I first intendet to get a new CPU next month (E6600) and keep that until the quad core CPUs become cheaper. But if i'd get a good Cooling Device instead i could stick with the current CPU couldn't i? I've never overclocked before but i think i could manage to do it, ofcourse with some assistance from somebody. The thing that bugs me the most is that i haven't been able to figure out what drawbacks i get from overclocking. Please oh ye allmighty hardware gurus i need your help now.

Please tell us more about your hardware.
Your motherboard and ram.

I got a e4300 with a p5b deluxe and 1gb ddr2 800 corsair overclocked from 1.8 to 3.0ghz with a 340 fsb.

well technically you void your warranty when you overclock - but overclocking doesn't brand a "I've been overclocked" onto your chip, so it's kinda hard to tell AFAIK. But if you fry your chip (which is the risk, of course) and then try to get it replaced under warranty, and say that you oc'd it, you will be up the creek w/o a paddle. Your biggest concern is the power running to the chip, as well as heat. Just make sure you have a good fan if you plan on Ocing it much (i.e. 1.8 - 3.0 ghz is quite a difference)

but yeah, say what mobo and fan you're using, as well as RAM. (if you don't know your ram just google cpu-z)

you can get least .5GHz on most Core2Duo CPU's w/o a problem, but beyond that you'd need to have some cares, cooling system and power for instance.

He should probably had said 0.5 GHz, but he did say .5 GHz (i.e. 1/2 ghz = 500 MHz)

AFAIK, the E4300 have a fsb wall around or near 400 fsb. So 9 x 400 = 3600MHz or 3.6GHz Of course, I'm talking about on air cooling, other than that I have never seen any liquid nitrogen or that kinda stuff being use on the E4300...

Well you've bought an intel motherboard. There's no chance to overclocking now.

Oh well
Btw. your avatar kinda gives me the creeps. I'm not afraid of spiders but the effect of the black/white switching kinda freaks me out. It looks like it's zooming in all the time. Freaky.

He meant a motherboard with a p965 chipset.
The mobo does not have to be Intel brand.
The asus p5b series all are p965 IMO.

Personally, I'd stick with an Asus or Gigabyte P965 board.

As you seem to like that store maybe this mobo can help you.

If you can afford more than that get a p5b deluxe.

I like it because the prices are ok and it's the closest hardware shop around (at least with variety)
Alright, so with that mobo i could stick a while couldn't i?
What about my Ram is that one okay or should i consider getting other? As i'm getting at least one new ram (cause i've got 2 different atm) i could even consider getting a new one with 1024, so i could upgrade later on.
I've also posted a link to the cooling fans could you please check those?
Looks like next month i'll be getting other stuff than the Cpu. On the other hand i could just beat the whole overclocking issue and just get a new cpu without overclocking that one.

If you don't overclock then there's no reason to get the e4300. The e6300 cost 10-20 dollars more and it's typically a bit faster.

But I doubt once you have a core2duo, you won't get the urge to overclock.

Anyway here are the top five boards for overclocking

Quote:
Note: The settings in this guide will assume the user has adequate cooling for their processor.
And uses one of the following recommended motherboard:
-abit AW9D series (975X)
-ASUS P5W DH series (975X)
-DFI Infinity or LANParty 975X/G
-abit AB9 series
-ASUS P5B* Deluxe/WiFi-AP (965P)
-Gigabyte 965P-DS3 or DS4 or DQ6
*P5B vanilla is not recommended
**nForce590/570 Intel Edition based motherboard will not work with this guide nor recommended for overclocking**
I should tell you most reviewing sites that deal with cpu reviews generally use gigabyte or asus brand.

Here's where to read about core2duo overclocking.

Thanks for the info but i already own the E4300 and wanted to know if i should either oc it (new mobo, cooling fan, maybe even more ram) or just get a E6600 without oc'ing anything. But the more i think about it the more i'm interested in getting a new motherboard as i can use it later on to overclock a new cpu... But i'm still not sure. Help!
