You seriously need to ask yourself a few questions:

1) Do you actually know what you are doing?
2) Why do you need to overclock your card?
3) Will overclocking your card make any difference whatsoever?
4) Why did you make this thread when your question was already answered in the Hardware Discussion?

Says who? With that uber crap gfx card you will never get good speeds with pcsx2 no matter how much you overclock it...i guess your processor is in the same league so no you won't get better speeds with pcsx2 except if you upgrade

Overclocking can damage your hardware if you don't know what you're doing.

Maybe things have changed since September, but I always thought that PCSX2 primarily used the CPU.

The FX5500 is a pretty old card. If you want better results then I'd just upgrade. THAT IS, if PCSX2 is more GPU driven than it was in September, and if you're willing to spend money just to get an extra few FPS (or a ton of money to get decent frame rates.)

You asked: "how do i overclock my nvidia geforce fx 5500 256mb card ???."
Clements replied: "...use either Coolbits ... or Rivatuner..."

That's your answer.

What's the rest of your PC like? Unless it's more recent that your graphics card, then I wouldn't expect much.

OK so your whole system is rather slow for PCSX2, that is the problem. PCSX2 is more demanding than any PC game for example (I'm meantioning that since there's so many people that keep referring to how their comps perform just fine in PC games and why PCSX2 is slow) due to PC has to emulate stuff the PS2 has hardware support for and PS2 console is a very tricky system to emulate, they work very different environments too so it doesn't work by far in the most efficient way but most people fail to see that.

Your processor is too slow to play PCSX2 at full speed. End of story.

A CPU's power is not measured by it's clock speed. And you might want to check if that "P4 1.6ghz" is actually a Core Duo or something. I hear those processors have good results with PCSX2.

Dream on, I don't think a P4 1.6GHz could run any game at full speed or even near it.

Dual core CPU is a good bet if you want enjoayble speed, the single core Pentium 4 3.4GHz would still struggle in most games, less demanding 3D games might run barely enough for you to think it's worth playing it but it won't run at close to full speed in the big majority of games.

Only single core CPUs that provide playable speeds in decent amount games would be higherend/overclocked AMD64+ single core cpus cuz I had an 3700+ overclocked to 2.7GHz before and it ran at least quite a few games good. As a comparision AMD 2.7GHz S939 3700+ cpu equals to about Pentium 4 @ 4.3 ~ 4.5GHz or something along that.

Pentium Ds can be had for same £65 too but these aren't as effective in dual core mode as AMD X2 or Intel Conroe CPUs... and I don't think a 2.8GHz Pentium D runs any faster at all compared to a single core Pentium 4 3.4GHz though for example.

Just play on the real PS2, you're gonna need both a new gfx card and CPU if you want enjoyable speeds in PCSX2 and it's gonna cost quite a lot more than £65.
