I've been trying to troubleshoot this comp for over a month now. I built this comp out of spare parts most were bought brand new, and the CPU was used. Whenever I turn it on, the fans spin and nothing else. I get no screens, no beeps, no nothing! I checked the internal speaker jumper cable, and that's not the problem. I reseated the CPU, that didn't work. I reset the CMOS jumper, which caused the comp not to turn on. I know the RAM is fine because I've tested it and it works great. I've narrowed it down to these three parts. First of all, let me give you the details of the hardware I think might be the problem.
motherboard: MSI. It's a K8M Neo-V chipset VIA K8M800 + 8237. CPU: AMD 64 3000+ ~2GHz PSU: iBest 600w (+12 20A) RAM: 512MB DDR 333 HDD: Seagate 160GB I really need this comp to work asap mainly for business purposes. It's not the greatest hardware money can buy, but it's better than what I'm using now. If anyone has any ideas, let me know. Thanks.

does the hardisk receive power??
try replacing the whole psu unit and checking it i remember my friend got the exact same problem and at last when the motherboard was replaced the whole thing started running so the last resolve will be to change/repair the mobo personally i don't recommend repairing the mobo a it will cost u $$ and there is no guarantee that it would work for long, better buy a new one if its the problem of motherboard

My hunch is either you got a dead processor or a dead motherboard.
Or something in between....

Well, I really hope it's not the processor. If it's the mobo, I'll just replace it with one that has PCI-E on it and then I can at least pull out my old NVidia GeForce 6600 GT TF3 from the closet. I had that thing for a year and never used it.

theres your problem, yet another person who tried to save on the power supply. Althon 64's should have at LEAST 25-27 Amps on the 12v rail (total if it has more than 1 line), i recommend at least 30Amps tho, which is EASILY achievable on a 400watt PSU, no need for 600 watts. but that will be causing crashes or lack of booting.

Yeah I agree the PSU is too weak. If that doesnt solve the problem though, id say the mobo is bad.

it should do yes, as long as you never use it on an ABit or Winfast board, they seem to hate Antec PSU's dont know why tho

Although it doesn't meet the recommended requirements for an Athlon 64 the PSU should however work ( unless it's broken ) i've seen Athlon 64 run on 400 w no-names ( which had like 200w real watts ).. so that PSU of yours , if it works , imo it's not the one causing your system not to boot.
I'm thinking about the Cpu .Is everything ok there, is there any pin broken ? Did you assemble it correctly ? ( sorry , i had to ask )Or maybe , just maybe it's an unsupported revision of the cpu and you need a bios upgrade .For example it could be an E6 stepping Palermo core cpu which msi.com doesn't say 100% it works. Check the OPN code on the cpu and tell us .If it's what i'm thinking it should be ADA3000AIK4BX or ADA3000BXBOX . |

the ibest psu is probably not the problem unless it is defective as flowrent said although this is a cheap psu it is a solid one, im using an ibest 400watts psu to power these system, most msi boards come with the D-bracket 2 diagnostic LED's use it to diagnose ur problem
athlon 64 3000+ 2 120gb drive in raid 0 2 200gb drive 9800xt this thing consumes more power than my gfroce 7800 gs+ 2 optical drive 1gb ram 3 pci card |
