setting the (gamepad) controller ID in windows...

Is there a way to tell Windows what your preferred gamepad is?
By default, it likes to do things alfabethically, so if you have a thustmaster pad and an xbox one, the thrustmaster will be pad #1, and most games will pick that, unless you unplug it.

Is there a way to set the xbox pad as the default? I think this could be done in win98, but I don't see the option in XP....

I think you can set your preferred controller by clicking Advanced in the Game Controllers options.

Well, I know that you can do that

(please excuse the lack of controllers...I'm at my parents' house where there are no controllers)

yeah, I know that one. It just doesn't help; the games still pick the TM controller even when I do that.
