I have a Compaq Presario 5000 and I want to upgrade my DVD/CD drive. Can someone please tell me how to remove my current drive--its cased 'with out' screws(some sort of clamp); the HP site only tells how to remove drives'with' screws.....I'd like to do-it-myself.......can you help me avoid that geek thangy?... .,Sanifu Last edited by sanifu; December 16th, 2006 at 00:34. Are those clamps mounted into screw holes? If they are, try to pull them up with a tool. If they'll broke up, don't worry. Mount your new drive with normal screws.

Most of them have some kind of release switch or catch, the screw less mounting in my computer is a sliding piece of plastic which pushes a piece of metal into the screw hole, you might have that kind of mounting.
Otherwise it might also be rails that are being used to secure your drive in your computer, in that case it should be pretty easy to find the mechanism that holds the rail in place, disengage it and pull the drive out. You have to remember to remove the front panel first as that may be part of the mounting, I had worked on Dells that use part of their front cover to block the drives from sliding out as part of their anti thief device. You might want to contact Compaq tech support about this first as I am not familiar with your specific model. |
