New computer
I was just thinking about getting a new computer. Which build would be the most cost efficient for running PCSX2? There's a lot of them online...but the cheapest one with the best results would be optimum. Also, I was wondering if laptops are decent enough to play them now....if not, maybe just go with a PC.

Best for price/efficiency in my humble opinion would be:
CPU: Core2Duo E6600 GPU: Radeon X1950Pro 1GB-2GB RAM, depending on the money you have left. As far as I know PCSX2 isn't reliant on RAM so you'll only need 1GB. The rest of the stuff - hard drive, CD rom, casing, mainboard, just get something cheap to support these. Very nice performance for its price, would run PCSX2 at good speeds as well. You could opt lower than this of course but I personally wouldn't The basics I listed + the mainboard would cost you roughly 700 euros. You could get a full machine running these specs for roughly 900 euros (sorry I'm European ), a lot cheaper if you recycle your old case, harddrive, power supply and CD drives. You can play on Laptops of course, but laptops are far more expensive. The cheaper ones either come with integrated graphics cards, low end CPUs or both. I'd never recommend a laptop for gaming. Either way, a decent game laptop would cost you at least twice as much as a desktop pc. |

That aside, I hadn't seen this one yet, which is why it didn't get moved. Not PCSX2 related, thus moved to hardware discussion.

Here's my recommendation:
Motherboard - Asus P5B Deluxe Processor - E6300 1.86GHz (easily overclocked over 3.0GHz) Cpu cooler - Zalman CNPS 9700 and get ArticSilver 5 for Thermal compound Rams - A pair of 2x1 (2gb) Super Talent or G.Skill DDR2-800 (pc-6400) Graphic card - ATI x1900 and up. For Nvidia 7900 series and up.

Should I wait or buy now
I was hoping to get top of the line stuff for cheap XD. But the prices are around 5k or 6k O.O. Would it be more advisable to wait to get these quad cores and stuff..or just buy a comp for now...and buy another one later...or just entirely buy the quad cores later....
I'm in no rush to get a new computer though. Old one works fine but sucks..can't play ANY games well. |

Trust me, you won't regret it! My recommended hardwares are the best and the best bang for your $$$. You don't need no E6600 or E6400, as long as you have quality rams and you can overclock the hell out of the E6300

sounds good
If you can build me one or find a site which has one...looking for under 1k...with hopefully some kind of warranty...nothing fancy. That'd be awesome. With your specs...at least. yup I'm a cheap miser who wants a very good computer XD
If it's not under 1k it's fine too...just don't want somethin 3k O.O Last edited by Sonsofsin; December 11th, 2006 at 00:54. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

Don't worry these hardwares that i mentioned does not sum up to 1k. If you want to play cheap then you can reuse your old hard drive, DVD-Rom/burner, computer chassis/case, etc. to save the extra $$$

I wouldn't say that tuanming's recommendation is the best bang for buck if you do plan to keep your computer long term and some parts such as the processor seems questionable, the cost effectiveness of using those components are also somewhat in question.

I have a policy against directly physically helping people over the web but you buy those parts from the links I have provided and then have someone assemble them or you can learn to build it yourself by reading the manuals, it's not that hard and in fact it's pretty fun to do.

Ok I think I might have decided a spec....let's see how cheap I can get this for
Nvidia Quadro Graphics Card Intel Dual Core Extreme. The Plextor dvd drive. A decent hard drive. 100gig or more. 1gig or more ram (preferable 2 gigs) Logitech® X-530 5.1 system Creative Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit solid case. solid moniter solid cooling system soild power supply. And maybe an elephant...for kicks. |

Don't bother with the Quadro graphics card, those things cost a hell lot more than the standard GeForce line and give no performance in gaming and in fact may actually be much slower Quadro cards are designed for 3d artists not gamers.
You do not need a cooling system if you are buying a CPU as most first hand CPUs come with their own cooling systems. |

I wouldn't spend too much on anything right now. Just get some decent parts and a E6300 Core 2 and overclock the crap out of it. And I probably would steer clear of laptops since they tend to have pretty craptastic graphic chips, unless you get something like a Dell XPS, Voodoo Envy, etc. but for half of that price or so you can get a better PC.
