just bought a new video card, have a question

I bought a Geforce 7600 today, and I had an integrated GeForce 6150 before that one. My integrated was a 256 mb card. I figured if I installed my new card, it would completely "erase" my old card, as if it wasn't even in the system.

First off I should start out by asking the question... The integrated card constantly took up 256 MB of my ram correct?

I checked my system stats when I booted up my comp, and the ram that was available was still the same as before I upgrades, as if the integrated is still using the 256 ram at all times.

I am pretty ****ty with video cards and stuff, but hopefully someone can explain this to me.

You need to disable the on-board video chipset in your PC's BIOS.

Both devices are active because it's completely normal for a person to have two monitors, plug one into each video device, and use both. Your PC does not assume you only want to use one. You have to tell it.

when u boot up ur pc
press either "Delete" or "F1" or whatever button it tells u to bootup the bios.
then enter onboard peripherals option, look for onboard vga, and disable it.
then save ur settings and exit.
pretty easy actually, but don't play in any other option, as not to mess up ur pc.

I did what you told me to do ya know? I found the onboard audio, but the only other onboard item that was on there was "onboard 1304". How do I know if that's the video card?

I guess to check which onboard vga card you have, you have to boot with the onboard graphics card and in the desktop do a right click and properties and check the name of the card there.
If it´s the same as your bios says then that´s the one you have to disable trough the bios.

Edit: Also I just disconnected my monitor and tried to hook it into my integrated ya know? It didn't work, is that sufficient proof that it is disabled?

ok ok iono whats going on but I will tell you this: with the 7600, you should most def. turn and disable your integrated gforce 6150. 1 because it will free that 256mb for your computer and second, if you go dual the 7600 will handle it. and as to the other question, you log into BIOS to turn off your integrated video card. however, its best for you to READ your motherboard manual for further instructions on this. i dont believe that you cannot find it in your BIOS. and also because you plug your monitor to the integrated/on-board vid card, doesnt mean it is disable.

Reading the manual will help, you may have to download the PDF from their website. It's somewhere in the bios settings where exactly varies with every mobo. With mine for instance, I can select to go for PCI or AGP, PCI being the onboard one.
