The Ps2 Slim Thread

Is it true that the PS2 Slim version overheats after hours of play?
Is there like any accessory that would make it to run long hours of play like the old thick one?
Quite rare to see the old thick PS2 for sale at stores nowadays..
Got my first Ps2 back when it was just first launch..
Sold it a few months afterwards

With the PS3 soon to launch, I think the price of the PS2 will go down,
I dont think the Slim version went down or did it?
If I buy the PS3, which is indeed quite expensive, and I think the first few
units will have some bugs of course and Blu Ray wouldnt be mainstream yet.
Its tempting to buy it just because of the BR player & the new games..

Need some advice It would be nice

No, I have a Slim, and i've played it for HOURS without any problems at all. However, it does get really warm. I assume the overheating issues people report are because of the Slim's location around the TV, or if they leave it on the carpet it is probably sucking in carpet hairs and dust, causing it to overheat. But so far, mine works perfectly.

And yes, you should get one. They rock.

Yep, sure does. The Slim version has everything the original does aside from FireWire, and HDD support. Neither of which was ever really used by retail games anyway.

But the nice bonus is the built in network card.

Agreed, it's definately one of the best features of the Slim. Another feature that I love about the Slim, it the Flip-Top lid. All you have to do is solder an SPST switch to the button that signals wether or not the lid is closed, and you have an instant option for Swap Magic use. I bought a Mini-SPST switch and installed it right under the DVD drive, under the edge. It's barely noticable, and it works great.

And on another note, the early models of the Slim actually had modems too...

wow, a modem.

well i dont know if a built in network adapter is that great when all the regular PS2s were being packaged with network adapters...but it's something to consider when buying a used one.

is the FTP process of dumping the BIOS the same with the slim and regular?

Well, a $2 switch is alot cheaper than a $20 case. Not to mention it still looks stock, because the switch is not easily noticed.

Mreh, I just taped down my door buttons so the PS2 always thinks the lid is closed. About a 5 minute mod, and it was swap magic ready.

Actually, that switch is to help me boot my backups of my games. It has nothing to do with the cooling...

Yeah, I've seen that switch, but for me, if I need to change to a different game, I just turn off, put swap magic back in and go from there.

It doesn't come with ANY PS2's and isn't authorized for use by Sony. Google is your friend.
