Flat screen monitor problem

okay since ive had my computer, ive been running my monitor on 75hz refresh rate because it was supported. but, ever since i ran windows update and downloaded a monitor fix/update, it says only 60hz is supported now. so, will running it at 75hz damage my monitor in any way? thanks.

Check your monitor manual to see if it's capable of running at 75Hz (most of the modern ones are). If the manual says it's able to run at 75Hz or higher, you can set it without any problems. Probably Windows is not detecting correctly your monitor's properties. If Windows does not allow you to change the refresh rate, just disable DDC. And if you can set it a bit higher, it's even better (85Hz, for example ).

Btw, your monitor is a CRT type, right? If you are using an LCD monitor, I don't think there is a need to set the refresh rate at high values.

You can easily say if it's CRT or LCD by looking at the dimension of the monitor. The LCD monitors are much thinner and take much less space than the CRT monitors (which look like big boxes). If it's really LCD, then you won't notice the difference between the refresh rates. You can just leave it at 60Hz.
