New PSU, need help
Ive decided to purchase a new psu for my system, due to overheating and low wattages. this is the one i picked
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817103929 I have a question though. I have a dell 9100 dimension desktop, and ive heard how replaceing the PSu can cause huge problems because of dell's wiring. Is this true? thanks. also, whats the normal size dimensions of a PSU, i also heard dell's are smaller or something. |

wiring...i dont think so. and for size, this is 5.9" x 5.5" x 3.4", a normal PSU size for Micro ATX or normal ATX cases/towers. you can go take out your current PSU and measure it and compare.

It depends, on the the sticker I saw +12v @ 18 A
Maybe someone with more knowledge on these things should check as well to see if that is the max it can supply or not. 18A on the +12v rail is pretty low if you'd want to upgrade to a graphics card from the nVidia 6800 or 7 series.

the psu wont effect system temps unless it isnt dumping the hot air it generates itself out the back of the case. You didnt say what graphics card you have and 50-odd @ at is pretty normal for higher end cards with stock cooling
![]() As for that psu - its dual rail meaning its got two 12v rails @18a each. it'll be more than enough for your dell assuming the wiring is correct. dell Have been know to swap around wires in the atx plugs so when you try another psu, they go bang....... unfortunately i cant help you with that. Lastly, are you experiancing crashing and are your voltage rails reporting low when you use programs like motherboard monitor 3 or speedfan? because if you dont get any of that a new psu is pointless :/

There is an issue with some Dells and PSU's. Working in a PC repair shop I learned the hard way that certain dells have the + and - wires reversed on the PSU to Mobo connecter. When you get the new PSU check that the wires are in the same order, I had two that as soon as we plugged in the new PSU it fried the mobo. Don't know why Dell did this and they only did it with a few models, but backwards ones do exist.

my psu is working perfect in my dell, it has dual +12v rails, that put out 18A each for a max of 29A. YOu need atleast 20A to run a card liek that...your 7900
