Question Did PSU destroy mainboard?

my system specs:

Enlight 450W PSU
ASUS P5P800 SE LGA775 slot mainboard
Pentium 4 631 3.0GHZ 800MHZ fsb 2MB L2 cache
1 GB OCZ RAM
Creative soundblaster live value soundcard
Geforce N6800 512MB
2 HD
1 dvd writer
1 floppy

problem: I left my computer on during the night and when morning arrived I realized that all I see on my computer was a black screen. after reseting I got no POST at all, just black screen. After changing the motherboard, everything seems to have gone back to normal now. The problem started off with random resets for awhile. I got no blue screen even though I had the "show blue screen instead of restart" option on in windows XP settings.

How do I know if it is the PSU that is destroying the mainboard? Is there a reliable program to check if my psu is bad?
