New Pc Deal?

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&CMP=ILC-FPM04

alright I saw this and thought holy crap thats a good deal
now I know its got some mediocre parts, and the agp as well as slot 754, but for 300 dollars thats a pretty decent machine isnt it? (maybe with a 6600gt thrown in?)

or would I be better off throwing in an extra couple hundred and going with a 939 sli?

wow just found this for 50 more
any thoughts?

not sure on the top one but the other 2 are barebones kits, it means that is the bare essentials for running a pc. the top one however isnt much different, its basically case, psu, motherboard, memory, cpu. all peripherals are onboard so that saves aload of money, but granted the memory and motherboard would come to 300 bucks alone, so you get the cpu and psu free. if you intend on buying yourself a graphics card and sound card and dont want a really hot system, that will be ok

If you are not familiar with Tiger Direct, here is a bit of fair warning. I myself have never bought or dealt with them before. I've read oline that many have had trouble with Tiger Direct rebates, though recently some begin to say they've changed their act. Those people claimed to have good experience with TD's new rebate processor/system, onrebate.com (said to be TD's own processing center). They said they received their rebates quickly, in 3-4 weeks, when they chose to receive via PayPal. If you've noticed, TD "gurantees" all rebates on products they sell provided that you use certified mail with something (return receipt I think), which costs about $4. I just went through your link to check out the rebates, and they seem to require online submission only. I haven't read anything about this yet.
I'd suggest that you at least conduct a bit of research on TD and their recent customer experiences both on products and rebates before jumping into this.

edit:
The motherboard's rebates are from Machspeed themselves, and here is someone's experience with their rebates:
"I always want to warn people about Machspeed. There rebates are anything but and they do alot of tricky stuff to reject your rebates(claim it was post marked late, require both rebates be sent in same evelope..ect). And they do not give you a phone number to call if you have problems. Only a e-mail address. I called there front desk and had the lady send me to somebody to help me which I was then hung up on 3 times before I got to somebody. I will not by a another Machspeed product again (plus there MBs are not that great to begain with, ECSs are about the same price an a little bit better)."

thanks a lot
I had always heard that they were reputable, but this leads me to question
I would normally just stick with newegg, but those last 2 (the fatality, and the sli board) are really good looking deals
is it worth the risk?

oh and another thing, how much will that processor hold me back (the intel on the second 2)
and is there anyreason that I should just wait and go 939?

I suggest digging through them to find either positive reviews that dealt with RMA/returns/DOAs/customer service and/or negative reviews. Overall scores, IMO, generally do not mean much unless it's really, really, high.

What are you building this machine for? What I've been seeing online is that Athlon 64 processors generally beat P4s in games, hands down. IMO, their overall performance is superior to that of P4s, unless you are into heavy video encoding, etc. The Athlon 64 with the Venice cores also seems to be great overclockers. I've not been paying attention to P4's overclocking potentials, more knowledgeable members please fill in here.

As far as purchasing options, you can also check out ZipZoomFly.com. Do you have a Fry's near you? What about Micro Center.

BTW, you mentioned that in the combo there is an SLI board, I don't believe I saw any of them to be SLI capable.
