Changed stock cooler to AC Accelero S2 (120mm + 80mm fans), idle temps dropped >10C, full load >20C (memory >30C).

System
cpu: Q6600 @ 3.16Ghz
ram: A-Data 800g @ 1Ghz
gpu: HD4770 @ 950/4800
os: Vista sp1 X64

Update:

gpu: HD4770 @ 980/4800

Finally installed 3dmark06.

Here are my scores.

A lot of apps detect my 9800 GS as a GT because in reality it is a 9800GTS downclocked.

the benchmark test is from gta 4 and it would let me do very high settings on the texture graphics because of the ram on the graphics card other than that everything was set to very high. the second test is a hard drive speed test of my 2 western digital 1 teribyte hard drives
also my cpu is stock and not yet overclocked

Unless you want a quad core CPU, I think that'd be the best upgrade to hold you over until you move on to whatever is out at the time. You'll get about extra GHz at least (it'd equate to abit more since the E8400 is faster clock for clock than your current CPU), triple your L2 cache, and get a FSB of 1800MHz for things that like the bandwidth. 3D mark 06 won't install for me no matter what fixes I try that I found in google!

Anybody got an idea how I can get it to install correctly (Locks up at the loading screen)

Does it not install or work in Windows Vista/7? I have it (got it with the motherboard) and tried it for kicks on Windows XP, but never on Windows 7.

It works on Vista no prob, but when i install it to Win 7 it locks up at the checking pc config screen!
