[Banging the head on the desk hard!!!]...Why?...Why?...Why?...

Gameman, I have a question...I've got a PhenomX4 9950 at stock a clock of 2.61GHz, and for CPU cooling I have the Gigabyte ProII (12cm, 5 heat pipes, copper/aluminiun heatsink)...how far should I push?...can I get to 3GHz without burning it?...

And as to the highly debated benchmark above, there is no way you can get 17000 points in vantage having a water-cooled system, a Corei7 965XE, a pair of GTX295 (makes no difference what brand they are) and 6GB of DDR3 1600MHz, all placed on a Gigabyte-patented, "Ultra Durable 3", triple-layer X58 motherboard!!!
I'd expect nothing less than 18500, with the possibility of reaching that ellusive 20000 mark.

I really couldn't tell you - have no AMD experience..

all I know is that in Everest I benched the same with this little system as a Phenom X4 9500 something....

Cheers and have fun...

Meaning you almost doubled the rate on your E2160.
My question is whether you're using air or liquid cooling to achieve such high clock rates?
If it's air then I'll be able to get to around 4GHz, if it's liquid then 3GHz will do just fine.
For overclocking I have the AMD certified overclocking system "Overdrive" - works both for the CPU and my little HD4870X2, so I'm fine in that field.

Air cooling.

I used liquid to push my old C0 e8400 to 4.3ghz

the onlyb thing I'm using as far as cooling goes is the intel Stock cooler that came with the cpu, 80mm green led case fan and a 5000 RPM Dominator Ram fan modded to fit on the North bridge....

and here are my temps....

they're definitely better than my temps on the beast with much better cooling at that... and WAY LESS of an overclock mind you...

the only thing questionable is my northbridge volts in Smart Guardian - Smart Guardian warns me that it's bad, but that's less than I use on the Rampage Formula... and DFI in their "official" t2rsb plus overclock guide seems to endorse using upwards of 1,71 voltage on the Northbridge just to achieve a decent overclock.....true!!! it's in their PDF OC-ing guide.. so obviously I'm not worried....

but that's it....

Basically 3.2 to 3.4 GHZ CPU speed for 70.00 Canadian....now that's what I call a good value...

and all the while it stays at 22 Celcius idle and 45 max Load

Here's my 3DMark 06 score for the experimental build (E2160))...

Sadly, it's nowhere the beast in performance for 3d or graphics, but at least it did it..

I didn't even think it would finish the test...so this is a surprise...

On the Beast it was always 18-19000...... So roughly 1/3rd the performance for 1/5 th the cost....

This baffles me how I was able to get 60 fps in most oif my PCSX2 games and some 40's - so obviously pcsx2 is more about the cpu than the graphics card...

but there you go.... a simple 6000...

but I guess that's what I should expect for GDDR2

looks like I benched equivilant to a Nvidia 8600GT with an overclocked Athlon ...which has GDDR3 mind you - although usually only 256 MB of it

interesting

Yesss!!!! I beat dipstick and his Athlon.... I knew this thing was a Mini-beast... Sort of....

Anyways here we go.... Now that's more like it...

This explains why it handles PCSX2 so well...

Gameman I told you when you started ages ago that PCSX2 relies far more on the CPU so why the hell is this suddenly a revelation to you?

Experimental Results:

This is what happens when you team the 9800GTX+ from my E8600 beast build with a little Pentium E2160...

Not bad....I was actually a little surprised it was so high....

So it seems that by changing it to a better graphics card the score more than doubled....

Obviously that 3650 is a piece of **** compared to the 250.00 dollar graphic card....

Oh well...there you go.....

Its interesting to see the difference between the build you put up and mine!

Plus you put a more powerful gpu in so its no surprise that 3DMark liked it more

He's running the benchmark at 640x480. Of course it's going to score high.
I'd tell him to run at default settings but he can't. Because, for some reason, a 32" crt TV thats only capable of 640x480 is better than a real computer monitor.

Samus, bench it again at 640x480. You'll see a much bigger gap then.

Yup, he should max every setting...then let's see if he even makes it past 10K...

He should leave it at default. If you're going to compare marks with others, DEFAULT SETTINGS.

Not the most in depth bench, but I'm happy with it. Think it's time for a Raptor + E8400 though.

Not my system (Was scores from a magazine I read) See my sig for my system build!

Its was done using the first Win 7 beta with what are now very old GPU drivers!
I am guessing that the same system would perform much better now!
