Damn athlon64fx-55 cpu's are selling like crazy
Damn i don't know if people are getting rich or want to oc very badly but i have noticed alot of websites are sold out of it and newegg is now welling oem version for over $1100 from the $849 i used to see it on newegg, though it was bs when i saw a thread about this from extremeoverclocking.com.Hopefully some people from here were able to pivk one up
.Are the fx-55 chips good overclockers anyway?

I think it's because they are the best chips avaible atm (better than latest Intel chip)
however the overclockabilty of fx-55 is not always great, sometimes you may only overclock like 200 mhz and then it becomes unstable But I guess there are also many European customers who are importing this since they can make benefit out of the low $ <-> high € situation |

Well that and availability. These chips are hard to produce and arent made in mass quantity. I cant believe the CPUs are that expensive as they are.. I guess the beautiful days of buying a 2500+ barton for 75 bucks and OCing it like mad are done...
MIne is going for 630 at newegg... http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...103-465&depa=0

Is there much reason to go 64bit yet? I just bought a 2500+ Barton and OC'd the hell out of it at stock 1.65v.
It's a 3200+ now. I won't be upgrading for a while. The 9800 Pro I got kicks the living crap out of my cooked FX5200.

The Athlon 64s kick ass mostly at the mo due to the on die memory controller. New games (Doom 3 and Half-Life for example) seem to be quite memory bandwidth hungry. As far as this feature goes, the Athlon is the weakest, being limited to 266/333MHz (unless overclocked).
We'll have to see if XP-64 brings further advantages a month or two after it's release. Right now there isn't enough software and driver support to take advantage of it.

Yeah, it's about 95% Athlon XP, only differing from the FSB and mem. controller.. that makes one hell of a difference though.

I though the 3200+ Barton ran at 400Mhz FSB? Well anyways, yeah, I could see that on die memory controller definately kicking major ass. Computer technology is getting pretty damn exciting lately. I can't wait to see what's coming in the next 5 years.
