Building a pc with only $200-300 possible?

Would it be possible to order comp parts from newegg to build a comp between that price range?Just want to see yall guy's answers since i know some of you have built comps yourself.

Ya i suppose so but it would be pretty crappy I thinks, unless you got some black mark deals or someone with tons of extra old stock.

I think it depends. Do you need a mouse, keyboard, a monitor, speakers and other little things like this? How about a hard drive and a CD ROM? What about the graphics card? Do you have these already and don't need to upgrade?

It just depends on so much what you currently have and need to upgrade. Do you want a complete system?

you could build an ok computer w/ $300, if u have a " Fry's Electornics" or a "PC Club" store near you, you should be ok. if you wanna order online here you go:

Your best solution wouldn't be to build but get one of those Dell deals. I've seen entire comps with 2.4 GHz Intel Processor, Windows XP, and CRT Monitor for $300 dollars after rebate.

If you built your computer and bought a legal copy of Windows XP, that alone would run you $150 bucks or so. Add on a mobo and processor that's decent and you're already over your $300 dollar limit.

Well i was able to look at newegg and saw that athlon xp 2500+ was 44 or 77$ can't remeber which one,only thing i wouldn't get is a monitor since i already have one and for video card i would try out my agp 16mb tnt2 m64,not sure if the card would work since i haven't been able to test it since we got it.

If you have a Fry's close, you can do a bit better, for example, this weekend at Fry's:

Why build one at that price? Canadian $, that's about the best deal I've seen in a while. Adding a monitor to it increases the total cost by almost 2x sometimes, unless you have one already, or find one for cheap. There's always used stuff too.

Uh, you also need a CPU and any expansion cards you want to use.

Powmax makes great value-oriented cases, so any from them would be good.. just depends on what style and what color lights you want.

Plus, that one has a handle on the top for easy transport.

Don't you need to buy a dual set to ensure the two stick are capable of dual channel?
Other than that, couldn't have picked better parts myself.

no dual channel ram are just 2 stick s of normal ram. and the kits are just 2 sticks of ram that been tested to work and should be the same chips and timmings.

Yeah. As long as the two sticks are the same amount, sidedness (double or single, single being better for overclocking), rated spec, dual-channel will work fine on it.

Although kits are technically "inspected" to work with dual channel, if you buy two of the same (or even similar brand, but always same spec, size, and sidedness) stick from a non dual-channel kit, it'll still work fine. I ran one Crucial PC2700 stick with one of these PDP PC4000 sticks in Dual Channel @ 400MHz, worked fine.
