TV out usage? Need help identifing the stuff I need.

Anyway I wanna start using the TV-out feature on my Graphics card, but the manual doesn't exactly give me any information on how to use it or if I need some additional equipment.

The card states it had TV-Out/DVI feature, and I think it has HDTV output. Here a picture of the only cable that came with it, Anyone know what the Red, Green and Blue cables are for? Possibly HDTV? Also, if it is can I use that on any TV or just HDTV ones?

that's called component video. It can give you the best picture quality with analog cables (I think it's analog). You will need a TV with component video in (or sometimes referred to as ColorStream HD). The black one is the s-video cable I believe. Many TVs have S-video. Unless your TV is very old, it may or may not have an S-Video Input. It won't give you thebest quality but it'll be nice for movies. Either way I would recommend Component (even better, go with DVI if your TV has the port at the back for it).

Most European TVs don't have S-Video as they use the far superior Euro-AV (supports everything including component AV, IIRC). You can get an S-Video to Scart adaptor from any local electronics shop
Obviously not knowing where you are from as you haven't correctly filled out location, I don't know if that's what the problem is

Yeah, I'm in the UK. I'll search the local electronics store for a converter and S-Video extension, if I can't find one I'll order online, thanks.

As Snake said that's component. I use that for em DVD player and wow, does it ever look crisp. If you have an HDTV, I would reccomend using VGA or DVI. And believe me, the difference bwteen the two (DVI and VGA) is so minimal, you probably won't notice any difference (that's referring to a TV, not a monitor)

If you just have a regular television, the S-Video alone would suffice. Just make sure you get an audio cable so you can get some sound through your speakers

Well, got a cable and it works, but alas nothing ever works first time for me so it only displays in black and white. =/ I checked around and can eliminate the following possible problems.

I have it set to I/PAL since I'm in the UK, so that setting isn't causing it.
The Saturation is set to default.
The connector type is set to S-Video.

Wierd thing is, when I set it from S-Video to Composite I can see the full colour for a split second before it goes black, so I know the cables fine. O_O I've tried a few drivers and I'm currently using ForceWare 7.1.2.5.

Anyone have any idea whats wrong cause google ain't giving me much luck?

Well I had loads of problems with S-Video output on UK TVs, but I thought that was just my old geForce 3. I used the S-Vid to composite adaptor I got with it as a result and was stuck with the lower quality.
That suggests to me that graphics card manufacturers dont' realise thier cards don't work at full Q on UK TVs

Your TV has to support S-Video. My TV shows in black and white unless you switch to SVHS.

Well I did see it in colour for split second and I plugged it into my DVD player since it has a S-Video out and tried to see if that would output a picture and it did, in full colour. =/

It's not only in the UK, the same happens to me too in Spain. The curious thing is that unlike my previous geforce card, wich had the two connectors, this ATI has only the S-VHS one, and an adaptor S-VHS -> composite. If i plug the card to the scart using a S-VHS cable, it shows in B/W, but if i use the adaptor to composite and plug to the same scart with a composite cable, then it shows fine. However, i had to connect once my CPU to a friend's TV, and used S-VHS. It started showing black and white, but when changed the input mode for that connector from SCART to S-VHS (in the TV, still using the S-VHS cable), as scottlc said, it worked fine.

Hi, I thought Id post here instead of making a new thread, the problem that I have is that when watching videos through the Tv-Out, I can see the desktop and all but i get a black screen for videos. Is there anyway around this?

Well since this has been revived I might as well give a update. As Kane suggested I bought a S-Video to Composite converter cable and now I can get full colour. All I could get last time was washed out colour. I see from your profile your from the UK, so it's most likely the same problem. I recommend getting a cable, I picked my 5m one up from ebay for £4.

i believe that this is a problem related to the video overlay. depending on your card, this is most likely a driver issue.
i set my software to use a vmr9 overlay on my fx5600le which works great on my tv/pvr setup.

I tried using Windows Media Player Classic and set it to use WM9 and I was able to see the video on the telly! But its not too great though, theres a lot of tearing and some times white noise keeps apearing.
It could be because Im using a wireless transmitter instead of a direct connection, but I only get the problems when watching vids.

Sonicfoot, make your primary display the tv and it will work just fine. Or enable the theater mode in the overlays tab of your driver's config.

the other solution to I-Chans one is to use the "extend desktop" feature instead of the clone desktop ar whatever its called. as Bgnome said its an overlay problem and that should fix it. just drag it into the second monitor (TV)
