ATA100 Questions

Hello,

is there any reasons that the 1st hard drive must connect to the end (black colour connector) of an ATA100 IDE cable stated by harddrive manufacture even if there is only 1 harddrive ? By connecting at the middle connector (grey colour) of an ATA100 IDE cable, the length between mainboard and harddrive is reduce therefore it's better ?

there is no improvement with either, the middle connector is for a second HDD if you set your HDD jumpers to master it will be the first HDD on the chanel nomatter the placement, I recomend that you just connect it to the far connector for convience if you place a second HDD and forgot to set it ot slave or left it on cable select it will not cause roblems but is ou have a master on the closer one and a slave on the further one you may have slight problems

you only have to worry about plugging in the different colored ends if you set your hard drive jumpers to "Cable Select".
