Question 16 bit or 32 bit transfer rate?

Hey, I was wondering what transfer rate would be best for my motherboard.

I've heard 16 bit was faster. But I've also heard 32 bit was better.

Can somebody give me the pros and cons of both?

(and also tell me what has the best performance )

32-bit without a doubt. Twice as much information as with a 16-bit transfer rate.

depends...

if u have an HD whitout 32bit transfer rate it will only make it slower that way as it has to emulate the 16bit transfer, but thats only to the IDE devvices, I have no idea what Katsuya is refering to

i think mostly nowadays, all HDD should support 32bit. Only those old school hd use 16 bit...

That's kind of difficult (can't take screen shot of my bios)

If I go to the IDE controls menu it has an option to turn 32-bit transfer mode on or off

When I load up the High performance defaults. It turns 32-bit transfer mode off

(Therefore making it 16-bit)

I read an article at Toms Hardware Guide saying that 16-bit was the fastest. That explains why the High performance defaults use 16-bit transfer rates.

16-bit mode looks to be faster in some programs. (Appears to be)

But 32-bit mode is faster with high page file use (I think)

What's with the discrepancy?

Can someone explain all this to me?
