Finally A New Computer
Well I have been gone for a while because I was aching to get a new computer, its not that great but it is a huge upgrade from my old one. See my dad got a new laptop so he gave me his computer, It runs on an athlon at 600 mhz, it's got an ATI ALL IN WONDER 9200, which i think is pretty good since it supports DirectX 9. It has a CREATIVE SOUND BLASTER 24 bit pci sound card. It has 5 usb's, It has 6 expansion agp and pci slots. but the best part is that I get my dads games two which include max payne, call of duty, Battlefield 1942 and secret weapons of world war II and About 35+ other games!!! So what do you guys think It it a good okay or bad deal. and remember Im sort of a noob wen it comes to computers.

It supports it but it isn't "compliant", meaning it doesn't support the extra features of DX9. Hell, I've yet to find any videocard which doesn't "support" DX9. The 9200 is comlpliant with DX8.1 features (I.E. Pixel Shader 1.1 as opposed to DX9 Pixel Shader 2.0).
![]() BTW, Hey Saman. That Athlon 600 is kinda crap.. err, really really crap.. but if it works, hey, more power to ya.

Free is good. I know that. I'm just trying to tell him it isn't as good as he thinks.
We go to school together cwissy. I talk to him every day anyway.

Don't diss the 633Mhz celeron, sure it has the power of around a 400Mhz p2, but we can't hold that against it now can we
.*looking at my 633Mhz emachine... sure it was a piece of crap when it comes to performance... but as an internet machine... it was okay... lol hey, as long as it can play the games fine, more power to you, i myself am thinking of upgrading the video card of my 1ghz athlon to a 9200 instead of my current gf4mx pci on that machine, as the 9200 is only $55, and performs 2x faster than my gf4mx pci version... as benchmarks show (if i had the gf4 mx with the 128-bit bus and agp, i wouldn't need an upgrade as it would be just as fast as the 9200) good pc, but how well does it play ut2k4? my 1ghz athlon plays ut2k3 fine... but chokes in ut2k4 .

>Your celeron 633 is nowhere near as powerful as that athlon 600.
In terms of raw clock speed it is... BTW don't exaggerate its not nowhere near as powerful but it is exceptionally more powerful in terms of cache and the like. |

>man, if that was true, than SzL's celeron at 3.4 could've CRUSHED n_w95482/Reichfuher's Athlon XP's at 2200 mhz right? mhz are everything, of course!
THen why is it that the bloody pentium cpu's are in competition with athlon cpu's considering that lets say a pentium four running at 3.2 ghz and an athlon running at 3200xp+ have different clock speeds? in mhz? |

/me whispers on the sidelines
I just love watching the mess's people get into ![]() Aneeways, i'd say thats one nice computer, for free. It's not too shabby for the price, and even though the CPU isn't the most powerful silicon around, for free you really shouldn't complain. ![]() |

Because Athlon processors get more instructions processed per clock cycle than Pentium 4's (something like 9 instructions per cycle with the AXP vs 6 with the P4). P4's make up for this discrepancy by higher clock speeds. BTW, I believe an AXP 3200+ is about on par with a 2.8 GHz P4, not a 3.2.

Chillypacman - you're a fcking retard. Do us all a favor and die.. leave, something. Raw clockspeed? LMAO. 33MHz. It performs like a 350MHz P2. Cache performance? Give me a break. Go bench your POS and report back.
Take my P3 Tualatin for example. At 1.75GHz, it could no doubt crush a 2GHz Willy.. it comes near an AthlonXP 2000+ in synthetic benches too. Just because your **** sucks don't try and act like you know something. Fcking fool.

For the record, I think they have 600mhz athlons on newegg for $19 er somethin, which would make hushy wrong
![]() Nice PC though, wish I had graphics like that. And the Athlon ain't that great, but you take what you can get(or afford), and you can't argue with free stuff. Awesome games too.
