Will a P4 Williamette work on this board?

Well, my friend just got himself a new pc case, but since his oem mobo from gateway didnt do the front panel stuff the traditional way, he has to cut the rig on using the power supply. So I found this board on newegg that supports P4 processors. However, I havent really stayed up with whats going on with Intel ever since they released the Williamette. So I dont know if its like AMD, where its compatible with just about any Athlon/Duron processor or if Intel is set up a bit different to where you have to have a newer one (which wouldnt suprise me one bit) so if someone could tell me if a 1.8 ghz P4 Williamette would work on this board i'd appreciate it.

Uhh, you didn't tell us what board. At any rate Socket 423 was used for Willamettes, although some Willamettes also use Socket 478. It depends on the CPU and the board.

As Demigod said, some Williamettes were on Socket 478 and some on Socket 423. As long as it's a Socket 478 P4, then it will work fine.

you could... but you need a socket 423 to socket 478 convertor... assuming the cpu is socket 423.
