Me build new Computer

I decieded to build a new computer and was wondering what I should get?

I plan on having a athlon 64 3200+ and a radeon 9800np. I'm trying to build this under a tight budget under 1000 and I want to know what would be the best motherboard and cooling solution. I don't plan on overclocking, I want an ATA hardrive and I'm not really interested in pciExpress .

P.S It would be nice if anyone has a cool case to put this all in for under 100.

Go ahead with your desire. For cooling solutions, buy a case that already has few fans place.

My concern mainly is in getting a good motherboard and looking for any suggestions that arent too pricey but good. And I want something that isn't so loud like my current computer which you can hear boot up being in any room of the house.

i recommend thermaltake's silent boost for the athlon64, try not to get the athlon xp version, as it is not compatible.

get the 3000+ instead of the 3200+, from what i can see, there is little or no difference between the two. how about a 2800+ a64?

excellent choice on the 9800np, for $172, it's a steal.

the asus k8v seems to be a great motherboard for the athlon64, too bad that ecs is one of the only motherboard maker that use sis' 755 chipset.

if you are getting a a64, you might as well have the best ram for it, corsair xms 1gb of 3200c2... lol... that would set you back... especially now, with ram prices so high. it's funny how people splurge on cpu and/ or video card, but skimp on the system's integral component... the ram...

Athlon 64 3000+
$212 http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...ion=19-103-425

Thermaltake Silent Boost
$32 http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...ion=35-106-037

Asus K8V
$129 http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...ion=13-131-491

Corsair XMS 1GB (521x2) 3200c2
$260 http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...ion=20-145-492

PowerColor Radeon 9800
$172 http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...ion=14-131-406

RAIDMAX ATX-847WTP
$53 + $15 S&H http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...ion=11-156-133

The only thing i left out was hard drive, cd/dvd drives, and soundcard (if you want a pci card that is...).

i left the hard drive out because it's best to buy the drive locally, as if there is something that went wrong, you can take it back, as soon as possible. for the cd/dvd drives... i don't know what you want. and for the sound card, i don't know if you want another soundcard.

* i think the case i put up looks awesome.

I read the reviews and they said it was pretty loud does anyone know anything quiter. I'm not interested in water cooling because if it leaks I dont want to loose my whole comp.

Also I was looking to get 256 mb version of the 9800.

I dont think u need 64 bit processor. In nowadays there is no advantage to have 64bit ,except if u have 4 GB of ram or higher( I cant remember),and if your computer is gonna be server .I read around that 32bit CPU's already work without any slowments winth 64bit numbers ,etc,so only if u have a lot of memory u need 64 bit CPU.The same for the 256MB ram-Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 beta shows no difference between using 128 or 256 MB card.Keep in mind that the games are still in progress and there will be some optimizations,so it will use even less ram or will run faster on same cards. So buy now cheap card and after 10-15 months buy better than it would be possible before, and u'll have one not "the best" video card, and one "very good",for the money of 1,just because u have waited 10-15 monts.
I bought Geforce4 Ti 128Ram just a month after released, and I still doest need to upgrade.I had never played CS final version and later, cos I dont like it,I rarely play old PC games. But i love Emulators ,some strategies and some FPS.
If i am wrong somewhere-correct me.

Get a A64 2800+ and MSI K8T NEO.
R9800 is a good choice.
I think an Antec LanBoy would be a nice case.
SP97 is the best heatsink out there.
Pretty much all of the WD 8mb drives can be had for a steal nowadays.

The case is not the best for sooling unless you buy seperate fans though. But Antec makes many other great cases. I have an Antext Sonata. (Very good)

even though 64-bit is still pretty much a gimmick, if you compare the prices between the p4 and the athlon64, it's like getting 64-bit feature for free.

heh, current a64 mobos can't handle more than 3 gigs of memory, that's fact. maybe server mobos, but not consumer ones.

between my Mad dog ti4200 64MB, and my best friend's visiontek ti4200 128mb, my 64mb card matches my friend's 128mb in ut2k4 and in other demanding games, (maybe because the 64mb has a higher mem clock frequency than the orginal version of 128mb ti4200 cards). having so much vram in a video card has doesn't really matter, as long as you are within normal settings like 1024x768, going really high res (1600x1200) is when vram matters the most, i never go that high anyway because my monitor doesn't support it...

so, if i were you, i would opt for the regular 9800 128mb, and maybe get a 2800+ athlon64.

I have a 21 inch monitor that can handle 1600x1200 so thats the major reason why I want the 256 mb version.

The case looks nice but it's a mini case and I don't really want to deal with that small of a case and have no room for my hands when I'm trying to put stuff in.

It does look good and I might just get that one ine the end.

Just looked at that case and wow! I like it but how is it with sound? And does anyone have a motherboard they like to add to this discussion?

with sound? mine is fairly loud, i mean it does have 5 case fans (2 front, 2 exhaust, 1 side...that one doesnt have the side though). it's actually not too big of a bother, especially for the excellent construction, good airflow, and it looks awesome, not to mention front firewire and USB

as far as A64 mobos go...i know nothing. dont ask me

Well I see you use a Asus board. Do you recommend them at least or do you have a bad experience?

I think the Antec Lifestyles(inc Sonata) are designed to be real quiet or something, if your worried about noise.

Yes. I have the Antec Sonata as I said before and it is very quiet. But don't be fooled. I also got a second PC for xmas with a cheaper black case that looks pretty cool in itself and it is just as quiet. Same fans and everything.

Bottom line is ifg you are gonna have super fan cooling it is gonna be loud always, You are that worried about noise than later on invest in water cooling. Noise doesnt bother me much anyways, Just crank up some tunes.

>>Well I see you use a Asus board. Do you recommend them at least or do you have a bad experience?

Oh yea, well just wanted to add, I use a Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000L 2004 GT Edition and it works great. It is a P4 only motherboard (so you have to get an intel P4 to use it) And no problems. Has tons of features too. I'll find the site and post it's specs for you.

the stock cooler for the a64 is fine, dont worry about that. i would ditch the 3200 for a 3000. and go for a 9800 pro instead of a np.

no1 has mentioned any ram...

also the a64 is worht the extra cash over the axp. as soon as ati finish there 64 bit drivers you will be good to go with windows xp 64. the beta is out now. and will be 100% free, just works as a patch.

x-dreamer is a very good case for only $60. nice and reasonably quiet. x-dreamer 2 sucks tho imo.
