movie maker is a nice place to start. doesnt ask much and uses windows standard WDM instructions to connect to the card. good for jsut verifiying that the system is recognising it, and can get picture for it. winamp 5 with the tv card plugin is really good for watchin tv/av/s-video stuff i've found. adobe premier is good for recording, but you have to "get" it then

make sure you have directx 9 installed, it's kinda necessary for most apps with capture cards (or they get weird)

You'll have to make sure that you don't have SP1 installed (nVidia video in/out doesn't support SP1 according to an e-mail I received from them when I had a similar problem... dropped that card in a heartbeat and won't go back). If you don't have SP1 (but I see you do), it's a simple matter of running any video capture program. I think even Windows Movie Maker works, though it's been quite a while since I looked. Btw, the solution nVidia offers for this problem is to uninstall SP1... do you really want to do that?

Now, as for plugging your PS2 into it... well, you're not going to get much quality out of it. The cable you're going to have to use just doesn't even get up to the maximum quality a standard TV can handle. However, if you must... I recommend the S-Video (slightly higher quality than composite and nVidia supports it).

For best quality, you're going to have to invest in a component capture card (do they even make those?) and get yourself a component output from your PS2 (I have one going straight to my plasma). This effectively is a monitor resolution without the blurriness... but only at the maximum PS2 resolution (they didn't exactly build for high-res ).

SO I have an ati radeon 9500 with svideo, I have a 19" monitor and I have a 32" TV, but my computer desk is SOOO much more comfy than sitting on my bed. So would I get a better picture on my tv or on my monitor? I have an svideo cable on my ps2. And do I just hook the sound up to the sound card? Or does it require something more?

ps2's rez is 800 i think. it looks terrible. but with a bit trickery and some AA on it it looks alright for a console on a pc monitor.

PCI capture card + grafix card is always cheaper then a grafix card with one integrated. so dont get one again kay! they are alot less buggy 2. and you dont have to pay an extra $100 each time u get a video card.

i run a PS2 into my s-video, with just the standard AV connectors and an adapter. run the sound thro my audio in (your gonna have to pick up a cable for that). s-video seems to be alot better then the composite 2.

most of the players use a button to the driver settings, which you use to select the source (coaxial, composite or s-video), so thats kept nice and tidy. i know the winamp plugin and movie maker 2 have this.

it looks different cause the screen isnt blurred to sh!t. and the scanlines are about 1/100th the size. all the ps2 games are high polygon, medium textures and low resolution. try putting ut in those sorta settings. overall it would look better, but its really designed for tv. you can do some nice blurring stuff, which makes it look more like it does on the tv.

sound just goes into the soundcard, as line in. turn your volume up and select it in the volume control for windows.

but you get to record whenever you want.

ps capture cards are frikken cheap if you wanna keep sp1. radeon capture chipsets dont work with the winamp plugin (cause they're ......)

Seems the best deal I could find in 1/4 hour is $1,249 for "Decklink SP 10-bit Component Capture Card". Wow, those guys are expensive... but that's what you need to get the best quality out of your PS2 on your computer. I'll spend a little more time looking around

EDIT: Wow... just looked on E-Bay... and there isn't anything there. I think that's the best deal around, though I think my approach would be to just build my own for 1/2 the price (It's very similar to your everyday VGA cable, with a minor difference... some are RGB, some are some weird Yb/Yr/?? weird nomenclature that appears to work differently. The RGB should be almost a 1:1 translation with the VGA output, so figure out how to take VGA input and all you need is an adapter (which I have found all over e-bay). Alternatively, hooking my PS2 up to my computer isn't much of a priority for me at the moment... I'll wait until HDTV cable becomes the norm before I need something like that.

Use D-scaler. That is what everyone here uses. S-video is just fine. You definetly won't get your money's worth if you spend a grand on a componet capture card.
