If you're planning on purchasing it, don't. Wait until you get a new mobo/CPU to upgrade your videocard.. but even then you have a 5600.. the difference probably isn't TOO staggering.

Yea, definately get a new mobo and CPU first. If your gonna game, that will be the bottleneck before your GPU.

what are you getting this for? if it's for either of the computers you have now, you are best off upgrading your CPU/mobo like cooliscool says. the GPU will likely make a tiny difference in your current situation (especially if you replace the 5600 with it...not much difference there)

well I MAY be getting a sata 478 HT board and some kind of celeron northwood 2.7
as for the cards, I was curious that the 5600 has 256MB of DDR and the 5700 has 128MB of DDR2

that celly northwood isnt an upgrad from your 1.7 p4. more of a sidestep to be honest.
keep your graphics card, and get a new motherboard and 2.4c p4. that lot will kill your current setup and a 5700.

Do what everyone else said: get a new mobo and cpu. And with the $196 you'd spend on a 5700 you should be able to also get very good ram.
Either get a combo like this DFI NFII Ultra Infinity-newegg refurb $70 Athlon 2500+ (locked) $75-$80 for retail or Mobile Athlon 2500+ (unlocked) $95 and lastly some nice BH-5 ram, this is definitly something hard to come by these days, however I just ordered 2x256 sticks for $63 a piece. I'll let you know how they OC but they should hopefully get past 200mhz fsb. 2x256 Kingston HyperX PC3000 $126-130 Total: $145-150 for just the mobo and cpu, but it's definitly worth it. Just FYI, newegg refurbs are excellent. I got my NF7-s for $62 with everything included

dude, for $196, i would go for a 9700Pro or 5900xt/se, and not even trifle with the castrated cards.

Didn't newegg.com have a 5900 non-ultra for $200.00 for the longest time and 9800pro at Best Buy for $250.00 with 50 dollar rebate.
