When I had my old GeForce 256, I overclocked it several times. I have overclocked my GeForce 3 only once.

I can say I overclocked twice my ATI AIW9800SE....
1) By softmodding, it was converted to an AIW9800Pro (re-enabling 4 missing pipes)
2) By increasing the Core speed to 392Mhz (not so much) and the MEM speed to 378Mhz. I prefer to increase the MEM speed since I saw ATI's OPenGL is highly dependent of the MEM speed. And I use OpenGL alot.

It works fine without any pbs.

My Voodoo5 5500 is running at 200/200Mhz, default is 166/166Mhz... I've replaced the crappy miniature hs/fans and epoxy with Coppermine class hs/fans and hs gel.

There shouldn't be a problem providing you supply adequate cooling. The stock HS/Fans on my Voodoo5's chips were hardly enough to cool a BX northbridge... Seriously, I've never, EVER seen anything so small in my life. Frankly I was dissapointed since the Voodoo chips run so damn hot. So I've replaced them both with identical Pentium HS/Fan's. Temps are WAY down... I can feel it.

hmmm this is weird, after I OCed it no artifacts appear, but the game crashed.
BTW I'm playing NFS:Underground when the problem happened.

I would overclock my card but I have to flash a new BIOS to it for it to work. Whenever I OC my card (or even underclock it), it resets it to stock speeds after about 10 seconds . I just haven't felt like flashing a new BIOS since I'm inexperienced with the procedure and I don't want to end up with a dead card.

yeah, it weirded me out too. i even had artifacts at stock speeds in 3dmark03 for a while, and in CS for a bit. for some strange reason though, after a while at stock speeds it just went back to normal....and now i can OC again, i just leave it at auto-overclock though
