Stick with MX420 or go with FX5200 PCI? :)

Which is better. I feel frisky since I just recently attached a vantec iceberq cooling fan on my MX420 PCI with some ramsinks and now attained overclocked speeds of 308 MAX on the core, 210 MAX on the memory clock. Yes, indeed gaining around 800+ marks in 3dmark2001se, with MAD crazy fast FPS. :guitar:

Not bad, considering the FX5200's stock speeds are 250, and 450. Only difference is the DDR ram the FX has, and the other things like a pixel shader (right?) and other small things I have yet to find out. I just wanted to know if maybe I should take off my cooling and blow $100 on a FX5200 PCI? Or save it for a new mobo and a cheaper yet more effective AGP budget card. I'm stumped, does DDR ram REALLY improve power that much? Especially on low end cards like mine? My budget card is putting out around 3.5GB/sec bandwidth while comparable MX440se PCI's and FX's put out around 5-6GGB/sec...I just like the fact it's an FX series card , that's why I bought my MX420, cuz it was from the GeForce4 line! LoL my MX420 ownz, it looks so pimp now with the added cooling! I'll post some pics later. Thanks!

5200s suck go 5600 they are the same price. And memory and core speed are not the only things to consider. EX. the 9800 and the 9600(both XT). 9600 has way higher speeds(at least in core here are the charts: http://www.ati.com/products/radeon96...o/compare.html & http://www.ati.com/products/radeon98...o/compare.html), yet much better. Anyways, you were upgrading mobo right...
Go with at least a 5600. And again, stop. Your card is not pimp. Mine is(Oc'ed ofcourse).

SAVE YOUR MONEY AND DONT BUY CHEAP STUFF!

I know new hardware is tempting, but saving your money for something kickass will make you much more happy. The money wont burn a hole in your pocket

the 58 was the "leafblower" of a card, and the 57 is overpriced IMO.

Off-Topic:Look down at the related threads. all of them are started by Szl. I laugh at him.

I don't know on the account I have not seen many 5600s or their clocks...
It's still a really good deal.

LoL I'm such a n00b. I just ordered a MX440 8x PCI? DDR! for $50 off newegg. (PCI Rulez!)This will fill my gap, will I sell my old MX420 (sorry babe) on ebay for around $40-50 since it looks so pimp

This card is even pimper and ownz j00 Xin0u I'll show you when it comes

Anyway by doing this I get about $10 more and get a DDR performance boost. No doubt that I will overclock this sucker to 320mhz core and 400mhz memory

Hmm...An "8x PCI". Yes that makes sense.
Anyways, I really hope to god that you are joking. Just look at my OC.
That card you ordered is not worth that much. And I shall laigh if your other card will sell.

BTW-before any lame person crtizices, the 362 is memory and since its DDR it doubles, so really 724.

seriously the MX440 PCI is a huge piece of crap. so is the FX5200. use this money on a mobo with AGP, even a geforce3 AGP will top the 5200 and MX440, no matter how many ramsinks and cooling and stupid crap you put on top of it. PCI sucks, no matter which way you cut it. save your money for a nice mobo...then save $100 more and get a FX5600.

Aaaahhh. The 5800 will creat giant headaches for you. Buy a 9700 or save and go for 5900.And why go 5200, they range from 80-120(depending where you buy), while 5600 go for the same price range. Really now...

YOU choose FX 5200 cause it gots DirectX 9 support ?
man forget it
5200 theoritically support DX9, but...
(there is alway a BUT,right...)
it cant run the DX9 based game well for the low performance
try a halo and you ll see
i'd never recommand 5200 for its performance
but if its price lower than 60$, it ll be worthy

What i like of Szl is that he is always seeking how to get more juice of his hardware.
I was wondering something similar today: a friend of mine asked me to build him a pc. We bought all the parts and i am helping him to learn how a pc works from the inside. Tomorrow we are gonna buy the videocard but i have a question. Which should i buy? A 5200 or a radeon9200? Remember i live in Mexico and these are the more advanced cards right now. I have a geforce3 ti500 and can run even mgs2 with all maxed out but i cant seem to find another one. Which one should we buy?

I would recommand 9200 if you must choose from the two.
