LCD monitor.......
Is LCD monitor really better for eye than a CRT (even if the CRT has the radiation filte)? i am not sure if I should keep or refund my 17" LCD. It is a big improvement over my old 15" CRT, but I am kind of poor.....I don't think I will get a 15" LCD, as it is not that much of a upgrade.

A 17" CRT has slightly more viewing area compared to a 15" LCD (15.9" for the CRT). So I'd say even a 15" LCD would be a major improvement over your 15" CRT. And yes, LCD is better for your eyes coz there ain't no radiation thingy. And it's also much sexier...

you should be happy you made a great investment to improve your veiwing. i dont think down grading to a smaller size would make you happy since you like the new improvements. For the LCD being easier on the eyes i think its all in the mind playing tricks cause i use LCD at work and CRT at home...to me its all the same.

An LCD would be better than a CRT radiation wise,In terms of colur vibrance a CRT would win unless you have a good LCD and If you're going to play FPS games a CRT would be better unless you have a good LCD,LCDs have a sharper image compared to a CRT,an LCD is more expensive than a CRT,my Samsung SyncMaster is a good LCD monitor in terms of speed and image quality but it also cost a small fortune

I thought about this when I wanted to upgrade my lousy 15" monitor. I ended up buying a 17" CRT for just £60, and with the refresh rate fairly high, it's okay on my eyes. I could not afford a TFT/LCD if I wanted it, they are very expensive, even for a smaller 15" one (I know the viewing area is roughly equivalent to a 17" CRT than a 15" one.) I'd personally rather spend the money on boosting my comp's power with upgrades.
For some people though, the monitor really counts above all else (it is what you see after all) and if you are one of these people, then get one - it'll last a long time, so if you can afford the initial cost, go for it. |

There are a few things you must know before buying an LCD monitor.
The Good: - LCDs take less space and are much lighter then a CRT; - LCDs don't require any adjustments to use all the viewing space (in other words, no "black bars" around the image; - LCDs give a much clearer picture then CRTs, as long as you're using their natural resolution (IMO); - LCDs consume less power. The Bad: - CRTs have better color reproduction (IMO); - LCDs can be very blurry when running in resolutions different from their natural resolution; This is noticeable mostly with text, but it's not bad with games; - LCDs are expensive. Hence why I'm about to dish out almost a 1000 bucks for a Dell UltraSharp LCD Display. 20.1 VIS, 1600x1200 optimal and max res with 75mhz RR, 400:1 contrast ratio, .225 pixel pitch, 16nm response time, 250 nits brightness.
My only concern is will my Gamecube hook up to it, I know it has Analog RGB, component input, DVI, and S-Video inputs. Bit I'm still not sure what all that means heh.

well with all that your gamecube will surely hook up to it....be advised that you probably need to hook the sound up somewhere else (if that monitor doesnt have speakers that is)
