AGP vs PCI (Your old PCI vid card stories)

PCI Bus bandwidth: 33mhz(133mb/sec)
AGP 1x/2x+ Bus: 66mhz+

I forget how much the original AGP bus can transfer... I think its like 500+MB a second though... I saw some benchmarks, and PCI cards do just as good as their AGP counterpart (same model just different bus types). However only in lower resolutions like 800x600. 1024x768 and up is when AGP starts to pull away...Poor PCI lovers...If there was more demand PCI vid cards would do just as well as AGP cards, however somewhat worse at very high resolutions.

Once PCI express comes out, AGP is expected to become OBSOLETE, MWAHAHAHA

Anyway, I just wanna hear your PCI vid card stories... Your old voodoos, rage 128s, TnTs, etc. Also if you know any more details of AGP and PCI bus speeds and bandwidth, be sure to tell us.

I dont see how. Just because there is a demand does not mean the bus will suddenly become faster. And about PCI Express...Its different from PCI you know that right? So if they named it poop bus, you would still like it? Or do you just like it because it has the letters P-C-I in it. Really.

yea PCI sounds a bit more sexier than AGP. However they are both sexy

LoL, yeah I know it's different, but the point I wanna make is it's probably going to annahilate AGP, w00t.

Well, duh. But my point was that you seem a bit too entuisiatic to bring about AGPs destruction, yet it will also horribly outdate PCI. But, as I said, You think PCI-so cool

PCI sux because of the transfer rate. If you get a newer mobo you will love AGP

When buying my new PC, I made sure that my motherboard was fairly decent which had AGP and no ****e intergrated graphics first above all else. The only reason people would need PCI is if they made a bad choice when selecting their motherboard and had no choice but to use PCI graphics (which are crappy in comparison to the selection available in AGP). Since AGP 8X is not exactly utilised fully anyway (AFAIK) I fail to see the benefit of PCI Express in all honesty. Perhaps only future unreleased GeForces and Radeons will utilise it well.

The thing holding AGP back I think is mainly its inability to supply enough power. Maybe if developers had to worry less about extra power, agp could be fully utilized. PCIX is supposed to eliminate power problems, and bring extra speed. I dont think ATi for one is fully ready to expand into pcix without moving their next agp cards into the .13u process.

Do you know if boosting geforce cards memory and core clock speeds increasing FPS with FSAA on?

Well since your using a PCI card, you also have to deal with the "latency" the card has. When you oc either the memory or core, this latency will increase, most likely makeing you lose FPS instead of gaining them (this happened when i oc'ed my ol' TNT 2 M64 PCI). I have oc'ed 30 mhz above stock speeds on my current card, both mem and core, and I see little difference, so I now run at the stock speeds again to lengthen the life of my video card.
