Question PSU might be the proble??

Well, i got this case in september, its brand new, but im starting to suspect the PSU is giving me problems.
First was my cd-rom that stoped working.
Then i got a combo cd-rw/dvd, but it didnt burn a thing.
Now, just some time ago, i was playing TFC/hl, then my pc slowed down as hell, i quit the game, the processessor was @ 2% only, but windows kept slow. "Nevermind, ill reboot". Then, for a big surprise, my HHD didnt worked!!
I took it to my cousin´s house, tried there, was reconigzing only 10GB, instead of 20GB. Took it off and putted again. NOW its works. Lets go home and try again.
I put it back, but with the open circuits up, worked fine. Putted back to its place, nothing works.
I try changing the plug from the PSU and back working.

Now my question, can the PSU cause all this? I´d rather by a new PSU than a new HDD.

AFAIK, yes. Try putting the parts in a different rig. If they run correctly then it is your PSU. BTW, what watt is your PSU? It may not be going bad, but simply not providing enough power.

PSU could definitely be the problem. I'm not sure what kind of PSU you have but if it is a lower wattage PSU, your problem could lie there. Anyways, when buying a PSU, I'd advise you to get one with a higher wattage capacity, I'd say anything above 400 watts will be good, and to look at the amps each line can handle. This is more important that the total wattage. Because you can have a psu that can handle a high wattage capacity but have nothing when it comes to it's ability to handle loads on amps. Anyways, I'd suggest just getting an Antec True Power PSU, they are really really good and the lines aren't shared so you won't ever have some piece of hardware robbing another piece of hardware of its power. Anyways, bottom-line, don't ever ever get a generic, cheap-o, power supply, you will regret it.

As the others already said, the PSU could be the problem. Now let me guess: are you using of of those cheap psu that cost "trinta reais", or one that comes with your case? Those are pretty common here in Brazil, and I must tell you: they suck. I read once in a magazine an article testing several of these cheap PSUs. One was 450W, and the other was 500W. They simulated a high load, and increased it slowly. None of them passed 250W. So, if you really think that your PSU is the problem, try changing it for one from a known brand (Antec, Enermax, and some others). I know here in Brazil they are extremely expensive compared to the generic ones, but at least it's guaranteed that you will get what's specified.

It's usaily a cheap PSU that makes it into non brand name PCs I have a friend who's PSU blew up in his case and it's still well below max power output and my PSU is also a cheap one one of the fans failed and I had to solder a new one in,the voltage is never accurate how can a +12V source be as high as 12.5V while the -12C is showing 11.5V

Well I use the generic 350W one that came with my crappy case, and it hasnt given me any problems, but I would try using a non generic PSU of at least that same wattage. (like Antec or Enermax) And of course if that doesnt fix it, you should be able to return it.
