How powerful is the TnT2 M64?

I was thinking of gettin one just for kicks. Isn't it the model that killed off 3DFX? Anyway, what are the clock speeds and versions availible of the TNT series, it seems like a storied video card from what I read.

Very bad-one of the worst ever produced by nvidia.
I use to have one in the family comp. My GF4MX440 PCI rplaced it- the TNT was agp 4x.

Not actually, For in it's time, it was the best one around....

One i have has done good for the games i ran it(up to now, it runs the Sims, etc like a charm)....
it used to run at $100+ (the price when i got it was $100 comparing today, you can get one below $20)

Well, what I am saying is that it was a very poorly made chipset IMO. All lot of things are good "for their day" but....
Anyways dont waste money on it. Buy "good" vintage like a Voodoo5.

Is the Geforce 4 MX420 weaker than the TnT2?

well since yours is PCI, maybe...SZL you are pretty much screwed with any videocard because ou have no AGP. you could get a voodoo5 PCI (IIRC its faster than the AGP one actually) but then again a lot of games wouldnt run. the TNT2, like op3n_skill said, was top of the line at the time. i remember i got one and was blown away, my sister can play Sims very well and PSX emulation aint bad on it.

it doesnt play SNES9x tho, it's actually a glitch in the program where the TNT2 and a couple other cards wont play SNES9x, getting glitches all over. oh well Zsnes still rocks.

btw you know it's old if the detonator drivers we had been using for so long were based off the TNT

The GeForce4 MX 420 is MUCH more powerful than any TNT card. If you are buying a vintage card, a Voodoo card is the best bet. It can sit alongside your other PCI card and it'll work wonders for emulation and old games, which is actually pretty useful.

A TNT2 is worthless, just like your current card but worse in every aspect (speed, compatibilty) and I think it has NO Anti-Aliasing. They are not worth £15!

My cards not worthless It's a trusty old dog, and get's it done

Which Voodoo btw, I have a 3, which stinks because it's got no 32-bit color, and 4's I hear are hard as ballz to find, and 5's are pretty pricey on Ebay.

huh??? Why, i got it working on mine!

TNT(explosive, the HW), Detonators(triggers the TNT, the driver to make the HW work)
Damn NVidia and their naming schemes (titanium and MX, now FX and ForceWare)....

Sorry, SzL! My wording was bad! I don't think your GeForce4 is worthless by a long shot, just a TNT2.

in standard mode. with current drivers. i remember updating my drivers so i could play CS and others faster but it broke SNES9x. they told me that i had to play it in OpenGL mode (bilinear) because the regular mode wouldnt work. i got flashes all across my screen.

btw clements, off the top of my head, i recall my old TNT2 having 2x AA and maybe 2x AF. i could be wrong, and i dont want to check because my sister is in a bad mood right now

Idont get it.

Anyways, the Tnt2 Mach64 was not so bad but I hate it. It ran neverwinter nights and everyother game up until this year. It hit a stumbling block with Halo and when I got my 96XT, my old gf4mx440 replaced it. I would say though to first buy yourself a new mobo and vid and stuff. Or v5. nothing else. Hardware wise.

The TNT2 M64 is pretty bad. It runs on a 64-bit memory bus, thus it has only half the memory bandwidth of the TNT2. Nvidia only created it to fill a niche, and it's not anything of a high-performance card. Still, it can run older games well. My uncle has one and I was able to run NFS HS on it well, as well as several other games (I was actually surprised by its performance).

That's true, although the TNT2 was the card that turned things around for Nvidia (the first Nvidia product to beat 3Dfx).

And what makes you say that? The TNT2 was pretty revolutionary in its day. Technology-wise the TNT2 was a match for the Voodoo 5, which was created a year afterwards.

Actually TNT stands for TwiNTexel. It was the first videocard to be able to process two texels per clock (on a single chip). It was considered quite a feat in those days.

Hardware-wise the TNT2 has the ability to do FSAA (the same supersample FSAA on the GeForce 256 / 2). However, Nvidia disabled it as it would be too slow for the card. They had some beta drivers that enabled it (only for OpenGL I believe).

FF7 PSX or PC? I haven't tried FF7 PSX on my TNT2 (didn't have it back then) but the PC version ran very well on it.
